I am returning my car back on Voluntary Termination, however, I cannot find my spare key. I have a Peugeot 207 what is the cheapest way to get a spare key? If I return the car without a spare key no doubt they will charge me.

    Thanks

I need to get a spare key for my 2002 Peugeot 307 as it only came with one.

I'm in Lancashire so I need to find someone near me who does it cheaper than a dealer.

I'd appreciate any recommendations anyone might have.

    Thankyou.

And don't buy a second hand (from a car dealer) or new Ford without insisting on 3 keys as part of the contract, and make sure you have the keys before taking the car from the premises.

Ford normally supplies new cars with two keys, and that is sufficient to get a third key cut and program the immobiliser oneself using the procedure in the manual (programming additional keys requires the availability of two keys that are already accepted by the immobiliser). I did this with a 2002 Mk III Mondeo; total cost about £35.

My handbag was stolen a couple of years ago with my car keys inside. I've since changed my car and never keep the keys in my bag now in case it happens again. I try to wear a jacket with a zipped inner pocket as a precaution.

I recently lost one of the keys for my Ford KA. I got it quickly and cheaply relaced by "Quick"n"Neat" in Herne Bay. Much cheaper than Ford!

I haven't used them, but some time ago a motoring correspondent in a national newspaper recommended the following, and I kept details -

That only applies to older Ford cars. On newer Ford cars you can program the remote central locking yourself, but you cannot program the immobiliser yourself. That can only be done by Ford hooking the car up to their diagnostic system. For example the Ford Focus mark 1 (pre-2004) can be done DIY, but the mark 2 and later cannot.

Although the programming only takes a couple of minutes, Ford dealers operate a cartel and all charge a minimum of an hour labour to do it.

So Wig's advice of making sure that any new Ford car comes with two remote keys and a manual key in the agreed price is sound advice. Especially if your new Ford has an alarm, since if you open it with the manual key, unless you put the key in the ignition and turn it within 30 seconds the alarm will go off.

    Aha, that sucks.

In that case, I agree wholeheartedly for newer Fords. Similarly, when I was looking at circa 2002 cars, I eliminated or discounted the price I was prepared to pay for cars without the minimum number of keys necessary to add a new key in the event of losing one. Quite hard to keep track of the requirements for all the different models and manufacturers out there...

Can't offer any advice, can only sympathise and hope someone has a solution as tried to get spare keys yesterday for both my kids cars.

One has a Seat, that was about £100 and takes 5 days to come from spain.
The other has a Ford Ka, that has to be a minimum of 3 keys at £25 each and £100 plus labour to reprogram the immobiliser, and VAt, so looking at about £250!
