still waiting for them to activate my account. I passed the readiness test but still can't change my status to available. have sent feedback, hope it gets sorted soon.

Still the same with mine too - hopefully we'll both get some answers tomorrow!
  • My account was activated straight away after passing all the tests. I seen this post about 3pm and have just finished answering my 10 questions.

I got 100% in all sections, could it be that if you get one wrong somewhere then they manually review it? to see just HOW wrong you got it maybe!?!

Thanks to the OP for posting

"Will I be an employee of ChaCha?

No. You will be working for ChaCha as an independent contractor. Guides will need to fill out a Register for Self Assessment and National Insurance Contributions form and send that in to the HMRC. You can find that form here: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/cwf1.pdf Depending on your earnings, you may also be eligible for exemption from class 2 NICs in which case you would also want to fill out this form: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/cf10.pdf"

"It's important to let HMRC know that you're self-employed as soon as possible - even if you already fill in a Self Assessment tax return each year. If you don't tell them, you may have to pay a penalty."

  • im a bit worried about stuff like that too - im not on any benefits but worry about filling out tax forms etc

I already work as SE doing chatline work, don't worry the Tax forms are pretty straightforward. Just keep hold of receipts, bills, invoices etc, I just shove them in a box folder. I keep track using a spreadsheet, I enter income as it arrives and costs when paid out and keep it up to date on a weekly basis. My annual tax return takes around 15 minutes for me to do online, most of the time is clicking through the sections not relevant (investment income etc). I'd say it is a lot more straightforward than a benefit claim form. Do register and do it online though, its much quicker and you know it has been delivered so they can't fine you.

HMRC are actually pretty helpful, getting registered is done over the phone and when I did it they sent me a folder full of guidance and information, they also ran free training days where you could go along and get more information. This was about 5 years back but it probably still happens if enough people have interest.

I will do the necessary forms online and see what happens I suppose! Try not to worry about it too much! Be really good to have something to do whilst you are waiting for the baby to arrive! I find it quite fun at the moment...I don't know how long that will last!

They've at last manually amended my account so I'm now available to start answering questions!

Hope they come through thick and fast!

I've answered my first question and notice that I've got 10p of earnings. I wonder if this is just for the practice ones or if the rate is actually gonna be 10p per question?!
