No they're not - they are ones that have to be cooked for half an hour to be edible.
Thanks I will check link out.

Been lurking on this thread for a while, but have registered now. I had a rummage and found a packet of dried dates and some suet left over from Christmas cakes/puddings, so today we have date pudding and date slices on the go (both v.yummy).

I think I'm quite a thrifty cook anyway, and don't throw much away, but I am being stumped by some dessicated coconut and some mixed peel (also from Christmas) and a couple of tins of chickpeas. Any good ideas for these? Not necessarily in the same recipe, but brownie points if you can!

You could throw the peel and the coconut into some muffins - add some spices as well and they'd be delicious! As for the chickpeas, curry? Humous? Thrown into a casserole or stew?

I put a can of chick peas along with a can of some kind of beans (berlotti, kidney) into a box of salad to last me 3/4 days. They are healthy, filling and cheap.

Oh yes, hadn't thought of salads. Nice with Cous-Cous in a salad too.

Every now and again I make up a double quantity of cous-cous and add a pot of Tesco Olive bar goodies (not the olives as OH doesn't like them - but the roasted peppers, feta cheese and sun dried toms), lots of salt & pepper, and some fresh herbs. Makes enough for several meals and tastes gorgeous!

Meant to say - food shopping in tesco last night came to £15.50 by the time I'd got them to scan through the voucher I got in the post for a free bag of McCains chips. I was going to buy the chips, then realised that I wouldn;t have bought them without the voucher, so I might as well get the benefit of the cash off the shopping bill instead! Next week I have a "£4 off when you spend £40" voucher to use again so it'll be another stock up - only problem is I've had a couple of those recently so the store-cupboard is full to bursting! Oh well, you can't have too many loo-rolls, kitchen rolls or boxes of washing powder, can you!

I've made these a few times they are similar to Twinks Hobnobs and I copied the recipe from another thread, sorry to the OP but I can't remember who it was - I think it was an Australian lady.

    FFM :)

    Anzac Biscuits
    • 1 cup plain flour
    • 1 cup rolled oats (regular oatmeal) uncooked
    • 1 cup desiccated coconut
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 1/2 cup butter
    • 2 tbsp golden syrup (or honey)
    • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
    • 2 tbsp boiling water
    Method
    • Combine the flour, oats, coconut and sugar in a bowl.
    • Melt the butter and Golden Syrup (or honey) in a saucepan over a low heat..
    • Mix the bicarbonate of soda with the water and add to the butter and Golden Syrup.
    • Pour the liquids into the dry ingredients and mix well.
    • Spoon dollops of mixture, about the size of a walnut shell, onto a greased tin leaving as much space again between dollops to allow for spreading.
    • Bake in a moderate oven, 180C / 350F, for 15-20 minutes.
    • Cool on a wire rack and seal in airtight containers.

    Evening all,

Well it was shopping day today and I only spent £20, Saved about £10 on what I normally spend! I usually throw all the sad look food out on a saturday after I've done the shoppiing, but today I had nothing to chuck! Feeling very chuffed with myself!!!

Did someone ask for a salsa recipie? Here's one...

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=943789

Hope it works, i'm not great at doing links!!

I opened a carton of beetroot soup that needs to be used up this month - it's horrid!!! It's nearly a whole carton so don't want to chuck it out but not sure what to do with it. Thought about adding it to a homemade soup but haven't got a clue what would hide the flavour?

I've also discovered a tin of butter beans, what on earth do you use them for? could I use them in a salad?

You could just use them as a veg with a meal; throw them into a (pork?)casserole; mix them with some other types of beans as a mixed bean salad. I have made them into a butter bean quiche - but that was many years ago when I was desperately short of money - and I made it last me for four days lunches for work.
