Hi ceridwen,
As your thread has dropped down the Old Style board I've added it to the existing one which encourages people to use what they have and where others will come up with ideas to help as it's useful to keep the suggestions together.

Well, my triumph for today has been not only diving into this forum headfirst, but I am also set to start the grocery challenge, in parallel to making the most of the dregs of ingredients I have in
On a parenting forum I use, we have a thread called the "storecupboard challenge" where we would make an effort to use as much as we could from our current stocks, before even considering spending any money.... so quite similar to this then
I have a huge list of my current "in stock" ingredients here.... I am off to sort a menu plan, I am sure I'll be back soon with plenty of "rescues" :jDebt Free Journey started 21.05.20170 -
I had some walnut halves that badly needed using in cooking as they were old and had gone very "strong" tasting. My mum gave me some apples from her tree, so I made an apple crumble with chopped walnuts in the topping. Gorgeous!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

hard is fine, mouldy is not, do check;)
ooh there's options in those...
* EASY-PEASY: open / make custard. cut muffins into chunks, put in a microwaveable bowl. put custard on top. microwave till hot but not scalding. the warmth and mositure will rehuydrate the muffins.
* MORE INVOLVED: slice up, about 1cm thick. line the bottom and sides of a dish with them. then fill with tinned fruit, id go for pears with the chocolate, or home made apple sauce ect if you have spare apples, put slices of muffin on top and bake (or microwave) untill bubbly.. my nan made this with all leftover cake and always apples and it was called Apple Charlotte:D
* Might Work! : here's one for the cooks out there... could you make bread and butter pudding with chocolate muffins?Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. dinner was frugal last night. just love Jambalia, and how it can absorb all the different random leftovers easily into something that feels like a propper meal! 1/2 a red onion, a scant amount of leftover sausage meat, 2 very ripe tomatoes, a funny coloured red/green pepper, 3 slices of woopsied frozen choritzo, a spring onion... garlic, oregano, paprika, water + rice. simmer for 25 mins till water absorbed. job doneRelax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Thanks for this easy one, I tried it with chocolate muffins at the weekend and they were lovely with a tin of custard.
I'm sure I've seen a bread and butter pudding made with chocolate on either CDWM or Masterchef?
I'll see if I can find a recipe. Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama0 -
