leftover chocolate cake

I have a LOT of leftover chocolate cake (in bits now) from the first 2 disastrous attempts at my daughters birthday cake - what can I do with it? We've got the good cake but we've also got 2 cakes worth of bits which didn't turn out properly.
Ive thought of black forest gateau trifle - any other ideas?

I know it's unusual to have this much 'leftover' cake.

  • If the cake is uniced, you could cut the cake into squares and freeze, then pull them out the freezer when you fancied them, zapped round the micro and served with ice cream or custard. :)

  • You could use it for a black forest gateau, or cut it into pieces and use it in the base of a black forest trifle, the recipe for which I found on here somewhere and have been meaning to make myself.

  • Or make chocolate truffles - there are lots of variations around if you google 'truffles made with cake crumbs' but I think the general idea is to melt some chocolate and butter or marg, stir in fine cake crumbs (plus ground almonds if you like) and add rum flavouring - or maybe orange or peppermint essence would be nice - then roll them in cocoa or chocolate vermicelli and leave them to set in the 'fridge.

If I have stale chocolate cake left over I warm it in the microwave and add custard to make a mid-week pudding.

  • For a treat how about livening a tub of value ice cream up a bit? Mix in some cake cubes and anything else you like - marshmallows, chopped flakes/buttons/maltesers/crunchie,fruit or chocolate sauce or honey and there you go - home made Ben & Jerrys!

I suppose I am 3rd in the queue but leftover chocolate cake does not exist. There is something about the laws of nature which prevents this.
After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
    To dissolve the people
    And elect another?

A few months ago I would have wholeheartedly agreed with you but since joining slimming world and losing 2 stone I have discovered that leftover chocolate cake does indeed exist and...wait for it...I made a huge breakthrough in the confectionary aisle in Tescos the other day and you won't believe it but...I discovered that if you don't fill your trolley up with sweets & chocolate, they don't actually run out - I promise you, it's still there the next time you go. I know I know, it's amazing - I had always shopped for goodies on the premise that they'll run out if I don't get it NOW, but it turns out I was wrong all these years...
  • I don't know what ANY of you are talking about....(fingers in ears) La la la la la.....:naughty: There is no such thing!!!
