You could zest the orange halves and then add the zest to mashed potato
Mix the condensed milk with some stiffly whipped cream. Add lemon juice and zest [or maybe that lurking orange zest!] mix and chill. Voila a chilled pud

Hey guys, I've got some Leftover chicken and Butternut Squash risoto type stuff from last nights tea. Today it's looking fairly soggy and unappealing but there is plenty left any idea's on how to make it abit more appealing?

Make it into little patties with a bit of grated cheese and lightly fry them until crispy. Then they turn into little fritters and are a nice snack. :)

  • I have just moved house and am trying hard to economise and be old style.I got a lot of meat bones from my butcher to make stock and have done various meat based meals. And frozen some stock.
What can I make from the remaining stock that is not meat based.
I have lots and peppers ,celery, onions ,potatoes, plus all the usual store and freezer stuff.
Any ideas for any more meals with no or little meat for two,I fancy something with rice as We haven't had that in our diet yet.I have got a slow cooker.

Risotto's always good. You can add whatever veg you fancy. Here's Jamie's basic risotto recipe and he also has a lot of other variations on his site. I don't very often add the booze, but just use stock.
  • that looks like the sort of thing, and I have got a little bit of risotto rice.I dont have any booze in,.

Hello duckeggblue - coincidentally, I made a batch of stock from lamb bones yesterday. I'll be freezing some of the stock but I also plan to make a scotch broth style soup (adding pearl barley, celery, potatoes, carrots, onions, herbs etc) and to use some of the meat picked from the bones to make little pasties (with some diced vegetables cooked in the stock as part of the filling).

You could probably use rice in a scotch broth type soup (supplementing the pearl barley) and in rice / lentil style curried pasties. Home made stock is also very nice when used in risotto dishes (I find Jamie Oliver's risotto dishes very easy to follow - you don't have to use white wine in the dish if you don't have it).
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D
  • that recipe doesnt mention meat stock though, will it be ok?
