I think ive just made 'disaster soup' :D

I had a couple of bits of broccolli, greens, carrots, mushrooms (that seemed slightly past their best), a few cherry tomatoes that had gone soft and half an onion, I chucked the whole lot in a pan with leftover gravy, a small cup of lentils and I threw in the water I cooked last nights sweetcorn in and just left it simmering, it doesn't smell too nice at the minute, but I'm hoping it'll turn out ok..
    :D

Sorry, being lazy - two replies in one here!

LabLover - I'm not sure how you could include eggs in this recipe - I think the yoghurt and oil are fulfilling the function that eggs would normally have in a cake recipe (mostly binding it together and making it rise, I think, though someone better at kitchen chemistry might be able to correct me here). If you really want to use eggs then you'll probably need to find another recipe - or make this one and have an omelette for lunch? :)

windowshopper - you can use roule cheese as a pasta sauce - add some diced, de-seeded tomatoes and some black pepper and it's lovely. If you eat meat then another possibility is to use the cheese to stuff chicken breasts, wrap them up in bacon and roast them. Very tasty!
Back after a very long break!

    Hello OS gurus,

I've got a pack of Le Roule cheese in the freezer acting as a constant reminder that people generally can't fit in cheese and biscuits at the end of a meal.

Anyone any ideas as to a suitable fate for it. Do you think it would be suitable for mixing into pasta for a quick sauce, although I was rather hoping to do something a bit more substantial with it. Mind you as long as it gets used up and provides an effectively freebie element to the meal I don't mind.

    Thanks for any help.

Hi there, I think I would make it into a pasta sauce with either some smoky bacon bits (if you've got any leftover). Failing that, you could mix it into mashed potatoes and sprinkle with lots of black pepper as a gorgeous creamy and cheesy mash side dish :)

Ooh, also - lightly cook some spinach, chop it up and mix it with the roule. Then, stuff it into big pasta shells and bake it :D

    Hope that helps

I've got a couple of pots of prunes to use up, one is going into a cake with some apricots (loosely based on a Hugh recipe), and the other will be pureed and used in a tart, pastry, prunes then frangipane, so like a bakewell, but something that we buy from the French stall at the market and my ds's favourite!

Condensed milk could become fudge or millionaires shortbread? Don't think I use it for anything else!

http://www.cooksunited.co.uk/recipes/609961244493432/Milk-Toffee.html Here is a nice simple recipe for toffee that uses (roughly) half a tin of condensed milk - assuming the tin is one of the 400ml tins and just reducing the amount of sugar a bit ;) I wouldn't have thought the peanuts were essential though :)

Millionaire's Shortbread or fudge would work too, and there is also this: http://www.carnation.co.uk/pudcasts/200903-raspberry-and-white-chocolate-chunk-cookies (yum) which also features lots of uses for condensed milk :)

With regards to prunes, if you wanted to use them in something savoury, you could make a tagine instead of or as well as some dried apricots.

    Hope that helps.

Just thought I'd give an update - I have a few bits of cheese and some old veg in the fridge, so we're having pizza tonight :D Tomorrow we're having a chicken and I want to make the very best out of it - so, there'll be at least a little bit of it saved to be turned into a future pizza topping :)

Anyone got any tips on what else I can do with hard bits of sponge cake?

Megane - I've already got one carcass in the freezer and will be saving this one to make some really nice stock. I've got my recipe and will probably tackle that next weekend :)

Thanks for the advice, Lablover, and I think I'll borrow the trifle idea :D That got me thinking that I could soak the hard-sponge bits in some sort of booze and make tiramisu with them! I'm very excitedly looking forward to trying that one. Thank you!
