I have been following lots of the fantastic ideas on these boards for a while now and thought i would start a thread myself for once.
now that I am becoming an Os convert things that I would once have thrown away are becoming ... erm...reincarnated as something else, for example- the crusts from bread - now breadcrumbs or very tasty garlic bread fingers...the kids fight over these!!!
- old brown bananas - banana and choc chip cake/loaf thingie
- broken biscuits and crumbs from the bottom of the barrel - recycled into naughty and very delish rocky road slices

Great ideas :T As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread on using up leftovers to keep ideas together

Old bread gets made into breadcrumbs, bagged & put into freezer
Manky bananas get made into smoothies or muffins, as do most other fruits.
Spare bread rolls will be sliced, toasted then drizzled with olive oil & put in oven with whatever else is in there to make croutons.
Spare sausages get cooked, thinly sliced & frozen for adding to pasta sauce.0 -
Ist time posting on this thread but was really chuffed with my creation last night so thought I would post. Had 5 boiled potatoes lurking in the fridge ( i normally would make potato salad or chuck into my soup at the last minute and blend) but I also had some mozzerella cheese that i had bought on special offer at asda (grated in a bag ) think it was about £1 but I needed to use it so sliced potates and layerd , potato , sliced tomatoes and mozzerella, generous amount of ground pepper and touch of salt and some garlic powder( OH wont eat garlic so need to hide it ) then had a tiny but of mature chedder left so grated some on the top. Baked it for about 25 mins untill golden on top and served with enchilladas , it was beautiful. Really getting into using things up sick fed up of chucking things in the bin.

Your potato-y thing sounds lovely, LabLover!
For the yoghurts, you could try turning them into smoothies - just zap up in a blender with some fresh fruit. I don't do this as often as I should, but it's really nice, and makes a good, quick breakfast if you're in a bit of a hurry.Back after a very long break!0 -
Fruit yoghurt about to turn - make into lollies, put it in lolly moulds. I do this with fromage fraises too, I also layer them so there are different flavours.0

Just found this recipe on one of the threads here
1 pot (small) yoghurt any flavour you like (I used lemon)
1 pot cooking oil (2/3rd pot corn oil)
1 pot sugar.... (I used a lot less sugar)
3 pots self raising flour.... (I used 2 pots flour)
(I added some lemon zest )
However I wanted to use up some eggs that I need to use ,Im not very confident at baking and I dont know what certain ingredients do , what could I substitute for eggs? I only have a small pot of yoghurt , thanks again

Hello OS gurus,
I've got a pack of Le Roule cheese in the freezer acting as a constant reminder that people generally can't fit in cheese and biscuits at the end of a meal.
Anyone any ideas as to a suitable fate for it. Do you think it would be suitable for mixing into pasta for a quick sauce, although I was rather hoping to do something a bit more substantial with it. Mind you as long as it gets used up and provides an effectively freebie element to the meal I don't mind.
Thanks for any help.
