We throw away a lot of food in our house. Mainly because my OH is convinced that as midnight strikes, food goes off lol. He won't eat bread with a single speck of green on, even if I just tell him to take it off.
Little does he know that most the bread I use for his sandwiches have been 'de-fuzzed' haha.

If meat nears it's sell by date and we aren't going to use it, I usually just cook it and then we have it on sandwiches. I usually cook too much food for our evening meals, but this is ok as DD has it for lunch the next day.

Question - can you freeze baked beans? Or do they go mussy? I'm sick of opening the fridge to yet another fuzz filled tin of something unknown!

Oh and eggs Lolah - I'd bake some cakes, that's a few gone. Omlettes for dinner? You could boil some for lunches for the next couple of days too. Unlike my OH - we know things do not go off at midnight lol

Sounds good to me. I love scotch pancakes. I'll have to find a recipe for some. Unlike you though, I have no eggs  typical!

Great ideas here folks. With regards to portion sizes...sometimes when I plate up I find that we've cooked just a bit too much. I set the extra aside and then freeze it [if I put it in the fridge it lurks and doesn't get used despite best intentions] It's amazing how often just a small portion comes in useful...last night is a case in point. The small person had a portion left over from a SC casserole I did a few weeks back whilst we had chickpea and coriander curry. Our meal used up the leftover sauce from the beef curry I did in the SC on Mon and it was served with potato salad with a curry mayo. The potatoes came from a whoopsied 20p bag and were all cooked at once. The rest will be fried up tonight for chips. It's worth checking before you buy reduced stuff on impulse that you really will use it and if not sure when make sure you can freeze it. Before I do the shopping I've now got into the habit of checking how many yogurts we've got left...always used to buy them on a weekly basis regardless of whether we needed them or not!

Well this morning i made my banana cake..yum yum it is lovely...and i'm about to make rhubarb jam and i had plums in my porridge this morning with an apple that really needed eating. I have a cherry yoghurt that needs eating today so i'll have thatfor tea.

I'm going shopping later so i need to make sure i plan it well.

Good luck with the challenge all!

I got the recipe from the back of my cream of tartar pot. Heres the recipe:
    Drop scones (Scotch Pancakes)
    1. Beat 2 eggs with 275ml(1/2 pint) of milk
    2. Stir into a mixture of 225g (8oz) self raising flour and 50g (2oz) caster sugar
    3. Add 1 tsp Cream Of Tartar and beat well to make a thick batter
    4. Place tbsps of mixture individually on a greased, moderately heated griddle or thick frying pan.
    5. Lift and turn when bubbles form on surface of mixture.
    6. Cook until both sides are golden. Serve with butter

I'm joining in here - it such a good challenge.

I made bread in my BM last night, I did a french bread because I had no eggs, and for the 2nd time it came out dense, solid & heavy. When I looked I realised I had used dried yeast "unsuitable for BM's, needs to be activated first"

What can I do with my brick? I don't think I'll even get breadcrumbs worthy of the name! :rotfl:

Can't agree more Aril. I call it habitual buying! I do it with OH's yoghurt drinks and used to do it with peppers. Now I only buy when we know we are likely to run out before next shop day.
