I can't wait to hear about your mini LBM. I need one of those myself.
:DxIf you know you have enough, you're rich.0 -
Mini LBM - whilst I have been of work post operatively I have had the head space to think about the debt - not so much how it got there but how to get rid of it. I have spent more time than usual on MSE reading others peoples triumphs and disasters, hints and tips, funny and extremely sad and poignant stories ( even though I promised myself I wouldn't get dragged into them - well I havent subscribed to any:eek:) and during all of this reading and mulling over I knew what I really had to do was just add up the debt and slap the figure on here so I could see it............ Yes I really hadn't added it all up to the last penny:doh:
For over 12 months now I have IMO been very MSE with only a minor discretion here and there. So the debt has reduced but not in the dramatic way I wanted/expected it too. I have read sooo many stories of people shifting huge amounts of debt in a very short space of time, and I dont doubt them, but I cant fathom it out either.................
So mini LBM. Add up the debt and employ some more fun techniques to reduce it.
I will not be posting an SOA because I have seen so many others do that and then some well meaning and knowledgeable person comes along and rips it to shreds and poor OP spend nearly every past defending their spending then disappears, dissolutioned maybe?? I have posted about others SOAs but I am am not in the brigade that jumps in with I can feed a family of 6 and 3 dogs on £2.76 a week. We knit our own yoghurt and huddle round a tea light for warmth OK so I exaggerate but you know what I mean:) And I am not knocking those ultra frugal people out there - I admire you and probably a teeny bit envious and if there where more of us like that I am sure the world would be a better place. The SOA will remain private if you dont mind as you dont know me or my family, how we live our lives and our circumstances etc etc. I will give you one little example I pay £25 a month gym membership. Now that would the first thing some the kind SOA critics would jump on - understandably. But you see I swim 4/5 times a week at the pool. I can go at a time that suits me - very early, very late, and I can use the other facilities there. I live in a rural area and have to go to the nearest Big Town for this. The local council swimming pool is not open when I want it, is overcrowded and going 4/5 times a week would cost me more than the £25 a month I am paying for the gym membership. But, I hear the well meaning SOA critic cry - there is the travel expense of going to Big Town - Yes I drive cos there are no buses - Aha more money wasted says smug SOA critic. Well no because I will match up my swim time with another errand - shopping ( 24 hr T*sco) So you see you really dont know and I would have to spend sooooooo much time explaining all this - THE SOA REMAINS PRIVATE:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Sorry went off on a tangent there.... oops!
Anyway I am happy enough that everything is paired to the bone - insurances, phones, fuel bills etc. etc. I know all about searching for the best deals, earning money on cash back sites and surveys. One area is food bills and I think we can cut back there a little - but not much. So the next thing is to make the money we have work for us, work that is in cutting the debt. I like all the little challenges - PADs NSDs and the like and recently have taken to the idea of breaking the debt down into 'percentage paid' and keeping a chart to colour in - simple pleasures:rotfl: Also keeping a spending diary again and an earnest push on Eb*y.
Basically reducing the debt has become a hobby - how sad is that! But I really believe that if I just allocated an hour or so a week to it it would make all the difference.
Now *drum roll* that debt total......................................
Working on my signature so it will come soon. Honest;)Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi
