Well that week seemed to fly by and now I feel I am hurtling towards the next 'big thing'.... DD2s departure on her 6/12 months study/travels. Will truly have an empty nest then and not sure how it will feel. DD2 already taking about not coming back to this country for any length of time.....disillusioned with the state of the place really. I am trying to keep an open mind. She is a bit 'rose tinted glasses' and excited about the next step so I am just listening and watching her pack up her childhood and memories....all to be stored in loft or her room of course!! This weekend no doubt will be many re packs and weighing of stuff...up to 10kg already and only put her "specialist gear" together so far!

  • Best of luck with it all. We waved our DD1 off to uni this weekend and it was not without its emotions :/ cant quite believe its an end of an era. She’s quite anxious about it all but also trying to be stoic and push herself into stuff that scares her...am proud of her but also selfishly wish she could just come home every weekend. A part of her course is a year away working and I am hoping she can base herself nearer us...but that’s a long way off so who knows.

Thinking of you Ig. Spending a lot of time at the mo around educational establishments...so plenty of time also to comprehend just how challenging your job can be..

Have a good rest of the week

'tis interesting times Brizz in all senses. Work is a challenge..more now than in any of the last 30 years! Shoe string budgets, inexperienced ( cheap) staff who do their best but not 'in it ' for the right reasons. Young parents with high ACE scores themselves, skewed priorities and a sense of entitlement I have never experienced before...........I could go on but it would tip me over the edge if I thought about it too much.

I look at my 2 DDs and just give thanks to whatever Deity you choose that, despite the sleepless nights and the emotions, they have had a positive start and that has come with hard work and sacrifice from us.

So the emotion of the 'empty nest' is tinged with a sense of....OK world. Here I am. It is my time again.

I have to admit that that is a scary thought.

  • HI :hello:

Just checking in. Thats a very thoughtful post up there (not the last one although that has a style in its brevity :rotfl: )

Yes would agree re entitlement amongst some parents and indeed some staff. As you say inexperience plays a part. And equally proud of our respective daughters. But now its our turn to remember what its like to be more free of direct commitments and responsibilities for our offspring.

Rather than get a dog (all the rage round here :rotfl:) think I will start a side hustle ;)

Haven't been around much...just been busy doing other things. This is likely to be my last post of 2019 and I am going to go away and think about whether or not I continue in 2020......certainly had the same feeling last year and decided to stick with it which helped for first 6 months of year certainly:)

I have stuck to my challenge and have bought no clothes in 2019 except a swimming costume and some underwear :D I have religiously filled in my spreadsheet to record spends....well religiously up to August when things went a bit down hill:eek: Not in bad way just RL! Since then I have kept up with it but not 100% commitment but it has given me some insight into my spending and how early retirement might look and I have just started to update one for 2020 so I guess I am not stepping away from all things MSE;)

I wanted to empty the house of 'stuff' but that didnt happen and have now 'gained' DD2s wordlies and some of her BFs whilst they are off on their studies/travels. I fell in and out of love with Eb*y and FB selling and made little headway there - must try harder in 2020- but lots when to charity shop and I have stuck to the Rs - reduce reuse recycle.

CCs certainly reduced in first 8 months of year then those RL circumstances kicked in and although there was a little cushion in the EF some had to be dumped onto CC:( So no worse off I suppose.

I am ending the year with a little adventure so I am stepping away from here for a few weeks....I feel, deep down I will be back, with some renewed vigour:D

Merry Christmas/Nadolig Llawen and a Happy New Year/Blwyddyn Newydd Dda
