I like Durham, and live there. Family hails from Newcastle, Gosforth area.
Gosforth has plenty for a growing family, Jesmond is nice but I think overpriced.
Good quality football in Newcastle too!
(If we are lucky)Trying to shift that debt!0 -

Gosforth, Tynemouth, Whitely Bay areas are the best. I know Ponteland is classed as Northumberland but that is a lovely area and just a couple of minutes drive from Newcastle.٩(•̮̮̃•̃)۶ ٩(-̮̮̃-̃)۶ ٩(●̮̮̃•̃)۶ ٩(͡๏̯͡๏)۶ ٩(-̮̮̃•̃)۶ :EasterBun0

I'm a Scouser living in Sunderland with a mackem boyfriend, mackem baby, Scouse father and sandancer mother
(the baby's first football shirt is causing some issues as boyfriend's family want Sunderland, mother would like Newcastle and my brother wants an Everton, personally I want Barcelona cos I like the strip!) x
I have family in Brunton Park and its lovely up there - v v v expensive though. South Gosforth is nice and I love Tynemouth and Whitley Bay for a day out.
Bit far out, but Morpeth and Alnwick are lovely as well - Alnwick is not *that* expensive to rent either x:j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0 -

Hah - funnily - one of my mum's business contacts is their neighbour.
I love Durham - however if contemplating a train commute into Newcastle from there - Durham train station, while having the most beautiful view of the cathedral and castle from it - is up the biggest, most hideous hill known to humanity! Also gets jammed full of students during term time and, well, to sum up my ex's opinion on them - they're the cream - rich, thick and full of clots (and I'm speaking as a Durham graduate myself on that one but by heck some of 'em are obnoxious ones).Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
I agree with all the suggestions above re areas but I would just give you a bit of a warning: be careful when estate agents say "Gosforth" because they might mean Kingston Park or Fawdon and some parts of Kenton and there are some of these areas where I really wouldn't like to live. So get yourself a really good map or do a lot of research on googlemap.LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012

My Mum and Dad live in Gosforth. Their postal address and the address on the rent book is Gosforth but some taxi drivers etc insist on calling it Fawdon. IT IS NOT FAWDON - FAWDON IS OVER 10 MINUTES AWAY! Its quite nice where they live. And Kingston Park is alright. So I would half concur with what you're saying January but check the boundaries - the NE3 postcode is massive.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

Gosforth is more central to Newcastle as far as the 'exclusive' areas go. South Gosforth Metro is about ten mins ride to the city centre. Jesmond is very close to Newcastle centre and is a mix of the very wealthy and students.
I'm originally from Whitley Bay (on the coast) and it is very family orientated, 20 minutes on the metro from Newcastle central and very well-to-do. Whitley Bay centre is obviously a draw for stag/hen do's but further along towards Monkseaton and the lighthouse it's lovely. Tynemouth is also lovely.
Stay away from North Shields/Meadowell/Percy Main/Wallsend/Walker/Byker and other areas down by the Tyne. Some nice 'niche' areas but on the whole, awful.
Fenham/High Heaton nice, central Newcastle areas. Elswick/Benwell etc NOOOOOOOO!!! (PS I think PJ from PJ and Duncan is from Elswick). Anywhere between West Gate Road and Scotswood Road, very 'multicultural' and rough as....0
