LLoyds TSB Stole My money....

  • I had kind of a similar situation in reverse happen at the Clydesdale Bank in Clydebank a few years ago.

I deposited a fair chunk of money in cash across the counter and told the teller how much it was verbally (as one would normally do). They did not count the money but instead put it straight in their drawer (this was the first thing that had my spider-sense tingling). The teller never spoke to me to confirm the transaction, they just handed me a credit slip/deposit note...and the way they handed it back to me further aroused my suspicions that all was not correct (I don't remember the exact details of what happened as they handed me the deposit slip, I just remember there was something funny about it). Anyway, I came away from the tellers window (big queue behind me), but decided to check the slip and discovered that the amount recorded as being deposited was £300 less than what I knew I had just given. I got straight back in the queue and saw the same guy, I explained what had happened and he immediately, without hesitation and without saying a single word to me other than 'oh' or something, just printed out a new slip with the correct amount on showing the correct balance......he didn't even look in his drawer! He looked very sheepish and wouldn't look me in the eye, etc.

I thought long and hard over whether to speak to the manager about what had happened but for reasons that I don't remember decided against it. I do remember that I never saw that particular teller again ( I was in the bank at least once a week so would have noticed him).

Now, I don't think it's unreasonable to surmise that this may well have been an attempt at theft by the teller. He had already looked through my account just prior to that transaction as I think I was querying a dd or something. He would have seen that I very reguarly deposited differing sums in cash and may have figured that I would be a likely target for this.
    ''apply within'' :)

This situation has never happened to me but I read a couple of similar stories in the Daily Mail (Money Mail sections). Lloyds TSB does not give you the receipt unless you ask for and that is where all the trouble begin. I do not know who tell lies but surely they do have some problems and refuse to correct it. All the situations I read in the paper end up with the bank paying the customers due to he/she being good value customer for tens of years...

When I take money out with my card at Lloyds TSB, they always count it out at the counter and give you a printed copy of the receipt. Much safer than trusting a machine or a ATM.
  • OP seems to have gone quiet doesn't he?
    Perhaps he ''found'' £500 somewhere?

I must admit, judging by the fuss he was making, I'd have thought he would have come back to let us know how he got on. He did promise too...

Just noticed the date in the first line of the first post:
On the 11 August 2001. I withdrew £1200 from lloyds tsb branch...
Wonder if that was an error or a trolling hint?
  • I have a big problem also with lloyds. I just opened my account about a month ago and they have sent me all the welcoming pack and check book only to find out during my pay day that my account was blocked due to insufficient documents that I have submitted. They did not informed me about this matter before hand. They said that if the account is blocked they money will go back to the bank who send it but when my employer check it, they can not see any payment being sent back. I kept calling llyods but all they did was to put me on hold or give me new number. Finally they told me that even the account will be unblock I can not get the money as my account has no money. How can I spend my Christmas now? and how can I pay my bills? What should I do?

First of all start your own thread as not many will read this old post.
I would have thought if ID you showed them as unsuitable they would have tried to phone you - have you got any missed messages on your phone - is the address you provided really the place you are staying - any post you have forgotten to read?
What the bank are saying is that if the account is blocked then any automatic payments will be rejected and returned to the bank account where they came from.
Normally this is done same day but if BACS is used then it might be 3 working days before your employer gets the money back.
You sound as if you are not UK citizen - what ID did you provide?

I am not trying to be judgmental but I think that the above title

    "LLoyds TSB Stole My money....
    "

is inappropriate, someone might but not the bank ...

There could be a misunderstanding or an error which sometimes might happen but what I am 100% sure, the major banks such as Lloyd TSB bank will never steal their customer money ...

I have been banking with them for over one year now, any error could still be corrected if you let them know ....

As per other opinions try to use their CS first and if it did not work use their complaint procedure ...

On the 11 August 2001. I withdrew £1200 from lloyds tsb branch in Cathcart, Glasgow. I filled in a withdrawal form and handed this to the Customer Service Advisor (CSA). The CSA then handed me £1200. Without asking for ID or paperwork to confirm who I was. When I got home that night I checked my internet banking which confirmed £1700 had been withdrawn! I immediatly queried this with phone banking. On 11th and 12th August they assured me the Branch Manager would contact me to discuss the complaint. After calling phone banking again on 15th August 2011 I got through to LLOYDS TSB branch. The Branch Manager took a note of all details but the way she ewas speaking me she being VERY patronising to confirm that £1700 had been withdrawn and that the withdrawal slip confirmed that. Now, on the withdrawal slip i spelt " Twelve hundred pound / £1200 " trying to explain this to the manager was falling on deaf ears. Listening to her attitude throughout the 20 minute call she said that because the payslip said £1700 then the automatic payout machine which counts the cash counted £1700 and this what the CSA handed me. Basically i do not have a leg to stand on. can anyone help with advise etc
