LLoyds TSB Stole My money....

Options
On the 11 August 2001. I withdrew £1200 from lloyds tsb branch in Cathcart, Glasgow. I filled in a withdrawal form and handed this to the Customer Service Advisor (CSA). The CSA then handed me £1200. Without asking for ID or paperwork to confirm who I was. When I got home that night I checked my internet banking which confirmed £1700 had been withdrawn! I immediatly queried this with phone banking. On 11th and 12th August they assured me the Branch Manager would contact me to discuss the complaint. After calling phone banking again on 15th August 2011 I got through to LLOYDS TSB branch. The Branch Manager took a note of all details but the way she ewas speaking me she being VERY patronising to confirm that £1700 had been withdrawn and that the withdrawal slip confirmed that. Now, on the withdrawal slip i spelt " Twelve hundred pound / £1200 " trying to explain this to the manager was falling on deaf ears. Listening to her attitude throughout the 20 minute call she said that because the payslip said £1700 then the automatic payout machine which counts the cash counted £1700 and this what the CSA handed me. Basically i do not have a leg to stand on. can anyone help with advise etc

Ask them to provide a copy of the withdrawal slip and take it from there.

That could open up reasonable doubt.

If they still disagree with your viewpoint take the complaint away from the branch and ask for the fraud department to investigate.

I'm not being judgemental but I don't think your post says, at what stage *exactly* did you count the bundle and find £1200?

OK, you need to obtain the Lloyds TSB complaints procedure and submit a written complaint strictly in accordance with the procedure. Keep your copy of the withdrawal slip very safe. If it says "£1200", tactically I would keep that quiet until asked. I agree with the last posters suggestion to get the bank's copy first. If not asked for there are escalation stages your copy can be produced.
  • I think somehow that the best piece of evidence at the moment I should get. The withdrawal form, but do you think they will just give me that?

They will provide you with a copy of it.
BTW - cashiers always count out the money in front of you don't they? If you were making such a large withdrawal, were you not following the counting? I would have been!
If you will the end, you must will the means.
  • Thats the one thing I didn't do as i asked the CSA to count it in front me but she said no as the auto counter machine does it. i did however count it when i got back in the car. Thats where I'm kicking myself !! because I never counted it

    A copy, yes.

If they refuse to pursue the complaint another way.

If it needs to go to the FOS they will not be impressed at failure to verify the transaction to you.

Too be honest the branch manager was more or less saying i was liar before producing any sort of evidence.....

I'll pop in tomorrow morning and get a copy of the withdrawal form. I can serious say I'm not looking forward to this at all....
  • ..........But if the machine counted £1700 and OP was given £1700 isn't he trying to steal £500?
    When did OP count money?

It wasn't a trick question, I'm not being judgemental, you've answered.

And could you please "quote" who you are replying to as in linear display it doesn't make sense otherwise.
