I just rang BT and was told I will not get a charge for non DD but that the rental will be increasing by 50p and DD customers will still get a reduction as has they always have.
So I am a little confused as to what all the press is about, I do know if they charge me for non DD I will switch my calls to another provider.
I use online banking to pay my bill and I pay on time.0 -
I doubt if anything will be done.If you are already paying by non dd methods you are already technically paying £3 a quarter for the priviledge they havent just wacked on £ 4.5Op,they have increased the charge by 50p a month.
Better then Virgin media £15 a quarter, plus at least they allow you to pay by non d/d unlike the likes of Talk Talk.0 -

Your already be paying £1 an extra month for paying by non- dd. Bt have increased it by 50p a month from 1/5/2007

Changing suppliers might prove difficult as a lot will only accept dd or cc payments, and others charge more then £1.50p a month for non dd.0 -
Well I may by online banking, but I think I will start using the post office if they want to charge me more from May 1st.0

Yea I think I got it now, I pay using online banking and I cant see why I have to pay more than DD customers so in the future I am going to pay through the post office so at least BT get a little less profit.0

BT is now charging non-Direct Debit payers a penalty of £4.50 for not using Direct Debit. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6436839.stm
Personally, I like DD for payments that do not change each month, but for bills, I prefer a quarterly payment so I know exactly how much money is going out.
What does everyone else think about this?0 -
Sounds expensive to me, but I like the DD system anyway.0

Quarterly advance line-rental = £100's of millions in BT's bank account gaining interest for them and their investors. I don't wish to subsidise the "Fat Cats" income so have stuck with monthly online billing. Now BT says I can't do that anymore, and want to charge me £4.50 pm, 3 mths advance rental. I'm voting with my feet and leaving. I've been looking at a small company called Utility Warehouse. Has anyone got any information on them?0

We pay our BT bill online mainly because our BS does not do DD. Now my DH is talking of changing to one that does do DD just because of this. Why should we change the way we do things just because it does not suit BT?
We too may be voting with our feet.A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0 -
I hear that BT are starting to charge £3.50 per quarter, NTL charge £5 per month for non direct debit payments, this seems an unfairly large amount, is there anyway to pressure NTL into reducing or stopping this charge?0
