so they kidnap the baby basically, no orders taken or police powers of protection?
No they just don't discharge the baby, which they are fully able to do without taking any special action. A simple 'baby will not be discharged till you show up with a car seat'. They don't have to do anything because the baby is under the care of the hospital untill discharge, not under the care of the mother.0 -
could you get a part time job? take in ironing? do a few hours cleaning? That would pay for itShut up woman get on my horse!!!0

She'll be getting £74 a wek in ctc and cb. Why should she get any more? It make's me laugh, how people can cope with a new born baby, but can't work. A baby is bloomin hard work. Also she was on about her wonderful Oh in another post, so how come she's pregnant, on Is and not able to fund a buss pass.0

Avon or the like would probs make £33 a month.
I have to wonder why you are having another baby when you are on a "tight budget" and cannot afford £33 for your current child!?0 -

She'll get a shedload of extra benefits for the new addition. When on benefits, one doesn't have to consider whether or not one can afford children - the tax payers pick up the tab.
This isn't a fault of the OPs, but a BIG fault in the benefits system, and one which makes many hard working, tax paying families who cannot afford another child which they would like understandably very angry.0 -
This is her third child, yet she's single and on benefits.0

I am leaving this thread now, since a simple request for advice has resulted in the OP being completely slated for reasons that have nothing to do with what she asked. Continuing to read it is just going to wind me up.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

We've got a car seat because OH drives and I'm learning, I'm not the OP of the thread though
However Squeak is only 11 months and needs a new seat anyway so the small one will get re used for the new baby. I don't have the baby seats from the older kids though, and probably wouldn't have even if I hadn't had to escape from the controlling KH that was their dad with whatever we could fit in bin bags.
Even if we didn't have a car we still would have a seat for visits to family/emergencies etc, even if they are taking you and your baby in an ambulance they still prefer the baby to be in a car seat.
With DD1 I had no real need of one, her nan had one until someone kindly gave me one I didn't, because KH and his mum obviously thought I had to stay withing walking distance of the house... wonder why lol.
I'm not sure I like the way this thread is going, as Twinkle said, she asked if help was available, not for people to trawl through her previous posts and slam her family situation!
To be fair she did say she couldn't afford the bus pass, suggestions which may reduce her outgoings are relevant to that imho. I am not slamming her in any way (no idea if others were or not). I have no idea of the OP's full situation and even if I did, the comments would not be of use to her.
We always had a car seat as we always had a car, tbh some travel systems seem to come with car seats anyway these days even if you don't really need one. They can also be attached to some buggy frames directly too (although I think the advice is against prolonged use ?).Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

problem is they do not aquire PR of a child whilst the child is in the hospital the responsibility lies with the parent. the child presumably does not necessarily have to be receiving medical care, it just happens to have been born in hospital. im interested in the legal position here rather than a discussion about safety or otherwise. a hospital cannot (depsite what policy they say they have) hold onto your child in spite of you saying you want to leave. they would have to phone the police in the first instance if they felt that letting you leave would put the child at risk. if you were walking home or getting the bus home, they would have great difficulty in persuading the police of this and getting the police to invoke police powers of protection.
they could liaise with their hospital social work dept, who if they felt the child was at risk by being taken home by their parent on the bus could apply to the courts for an order, but emergencies are usually dealt with by the police powers in the first instance.
i find it amazing what is bandied about 'the hospital wont let you take your own child home', they dont have the power to do that.0 -
After reading this thread I had a quick look at the information I've received from my midwife about leaving hospital (currently pregnant). It only states that you must have an appropriate car seat if you are leaving hospital by car, it doesn't say you can only leave by car and must have a car seat. My local hospital is in quite a build up area with lots of homes, I should imagine some parents who live close by can take a pram and walk back in home in 5 minutes or so.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:
