Given you already have children so must have equipment, you could have set aside that money to use for the bus pass if staying at the school means so much to you.
As you must now be single if claiming IS, is no maintainance being paid for any of the children to assist with the household income?
Because you need one to get your baby out the hospital. Its part of their policy that the baby is strapped into a carseat and the nurse carries the car seat over the threshold of the hospital.
Why must she have eqipment because she already has children? Do you hoard everything? Do you have space to haord everything? Do cots and prams last forever?
Maybe the father is unwilling to pay, lots are. Or maybe he doesn't work. Or maybe he died. Or maybe mainainance is being paid but is being used to pay bills already?0 -

If you dont have a car they dont insist you have a car seat.
Yes she may not have kept equipment but buying new things and then moaning about expected costs and expecting it to come from the school/state is wrong.
The father is still in the picture according to posts, works and lives with her, unsure as to where the income support comes into it as only lone parents usually get that.0 -
Same here, they won't let the baby out of hospital without a car seat.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

My local maternity hospital do. As do most across the country.
I didn't read that she bought new, but babies do need somewhere to sleep and some clothing to wear. I read her post, she saved money on a pram and a car seat was being delivered, she didn't say it was new. She has also been sensible and bought babygrows rather than outfits to save money.
Also you get income support if you are a couple, are a carer or are unable to claim jobseekers, guessing that is because she is near her due date and so wouldn't be eligable for jobseekers right now so moved onto IS. Its not an exclusively 'lone parent' benefit.0 -

Yes they do insist you go home in a car with a car seat. If you don't drive they insist you take a taxi WITH A CAR SEAT!
It clearly states in the hospital policy here that they don't allow newborns to go home by walking (ie in a buggy) or on public transport.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

refused this year, he goes back to school to start 6th form but aparently has to make his own way there,Plans_all_plans wrote: »Your son is old enough to get a paper round now.
however it's worth enquiring now. If you have a free paper delivered each week that's another one to start on, possibly better because no early mornings involved!
I'd 'sell' the idea not as paying for his bus fare, but paying for something else he enjoys which one might see as 'optional' or extra-curricular.OP, if his old bus pass is still valid, could you give him a lift to where the bus used to pick him up? Drop him off round the corner when he gets embarrassed about it
Plus the OP doesn't have a car.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
yes my hospital has a policy of taking the baby home in a car seat, i need a car seat, even though i dont have a car so when nanna or auntie gives me a lift to asda or the dr's, or even offer to mind her for a hour or so ect the baby can be strapped in safe, would the poster rather i have her rolling about in the boot????
this post is not about how i have funded this new baby, but was to ask advice about a school bus pass, ive received that, thankyou.Skint, but happy (ish):p0 -
We had to get a school bus pass last year when we moved.
Pointers that got this for us is...
I am disabled and so the move was a forced move for my needs
DS was in yr 10 nearing the end and had one more year left at school and they didnt want to disrupt so late in the school.. ie study and exams etc...
refused this year, he goes back to school to start 6th form but aparently has to make his own way there, even though the school has yet to still publish details on applying for the replacement EMA so he can get funding
The replacement for EMA is a Bursary for Looked After young people/ Care Leavers or those living independently and claiming Income Support in their own name. There is no guaranteed money for other groups.People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

what do hospitals do if you refuse to provide the car seat? seeing as they are rushed off their feet with people who are actually ill and in need of attention?
do you bed block or just sit indefinitely in reception?0 -

They discharge the mother and move the baby into the nursery or SCBU. Most folk do have a car seat or borrow one though.0
