The replacement for EMA is a Bursary for Looked After young people/ Care Leavers or those living independently and claiming Income Support in their own name. There is no guaranteed money for other groups.
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/14To19/MoneyToLearn/16to19bursary/DG_066955
16-19 bursary fund
If you’re aged between 16 and 19 years and think you might struggle with the costs for full-time education or training you may receive a bursary.
Students most in need will be eligible to receive a bursary of £1,200 a year. This group includes:- people in care
- care leavers
- people claiming income support
- disabled young people who receive Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance
This is the one, we dont qualify for the main pointers but the bit i highlighted.. we are hoping he could get something there, even if it just to cover bus fare.0 -
refused because 6th form is not compulsory eduction, so no obligation to fund transport. My lot all had bus passes, but not in 6th form.
oh we know he doesn't qualify as he doesn't have needs (rightly so as he doesn't)
but we are living off my dla and esa that's it.. so wanted to see if we could get him something from bursary..0 -
I would say £33/4 weeks for a bus pass is very little in price for a good education. It would cost you more than that if you sent your son to the nearer school and had to pay for extra tuition to keep the education the same as the school he currently goes to I am sure!I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0

You could *shock horror* stop having kids and you will have money to pay for your existing sprogs0

Same here, they won't let the baby out of hospital without a car seat.
Am I being silly here, but could you not borrow a car seat if it is ONLY to get baby out of hospital and home, and you are not likely to use it more than a few times ? Hey shame you aren't near me as I have a perfect condition 0-9 month seat looking for a good home! I am sure loads of other folks have too!
ETA I have just read your later post and see that you might use it a bit more than a few times.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

We've got a car seat because OH drives and I'm learning, I'm not the OP of the thread thoughHowever Squeak is only 11 months and needs a new seat anyway so the small one will get re used for the new baby. I don't have the baby seats from the older kids though, and probably wouldn't have even if I hadn't had to escape from the controlling KH that was their dad with whatever we could fit in bin bags.
Even if we didn't have a car we still would have a seat for visits to family/emergencies etc, even if they are taking you and your baby in an ambulance they still prefer the baby to be in a car seat.
With DD1 I had no real need of one, her nan had one until someone kindly gave me one I didn't, because KH and his mum obviously thought I had to stay withing walking distance of the house... wonder why lol.
I'm not sure I like the way this thread is going, as Twinkle said, she asked if help was available, not for people to trawl through her previous posts and slam her family situation!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

My 13 year old has aspergers and I send him to a school quite a bit away, costs me a fortune in diesel, also means morning and afternoons are a mad dash as I have 4 sons in 3 different schools, seeing my son settled and doing well at school means I don't regret sending him there at all.
You will find a way for it to work OP, good luck.0 -
what do hospitals do if you refuse to provide the car seat? seeing as they are rushed off their feet with people who are actually ill and in need of attention?
do you bed block or just sit indefinitely in reception?
At our local hospital they have loan seats, you pay a deposit and on it's return get it back. The midwives ft it in the car or taxi. My friend had to do this as she has no car and isn't likely to need a 0-9 month stage seat!
I think if I were the OP I would be borrowing as much equipoment as possible to ensure my existing children didn't have to suffer for my choices.0 -
But... Twinkle's DS isn't suffering because of the baby... It is because she has had to move to ensure they were in secure accommodation. Surely you'd consider that more responsible than getting evicted to try and get a council house?!
I know where I live the social housing shortage is severe enough that someone who lived near me was put with 3 LO's in 1 b&b room 5 miles away in a really disgusting area with prostitutes and drug dealers in the road outside, and Twinkle's children are much better having moved than being in that situation.
By the way the friend I just mentioned had to get from that b&b to school with LO's (7,3,1) and it cost her more than £33 a month, that was just for the 7 year old, she had to buy a ticket for herself too.
She was evicted because the Landlady wanted to sell the house, so very very similar to Twinkle.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o
