I was suggest that Milkshock tries going self employed. Would probably end up having a barny with himself though.0

im not saying that it isnt possible for individuals to avoid issues but ive seen backstabbing and collusion and vicious behaviour in every office ive ever worked in - dont say you havent either because i wont believe you.
yes people leave jobs because of politics - my department got a new head who did everything he could to undermine me, and he succeeded to the fullest. albeit with me doing myself no favours, but even then under provocation.
I didn't say that there are never arguments or issues in offices, of course there are. I said that I, PERSONALLY, have managed to survive 27 years in several office positions and never had a fall-out with anyone or been reprimanded/warned/disciplined.DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

again, if you've never seen power struggles, and what happens to those who lose power struggles, and how they are branded by their opponents, then your understanding of the workplace, and life - is limited.0 -
All sounds rather petty to me.
i think i mentioned it earlier but if you've ever been party to how couples behave towards each when going through a divorce, in many cases all rationality goes out of the window, the only desire is for each to destroy the other. it may be that they would both walk away with more money if they left it but pettiness does take over - and once one starts the other has but no choice to engage as well, otherwise he will lose everything.
how many offices have you been in where they say 'its just like family here'? well the fact is like any family there can be disputes and issues that get blown out of all proportion.
quite apart from the fact that for some people work is in fact one long ego trip.0 -

I have seen power struggles. But thankfully they have, mostly, been between adults who have the mental capacity and professionalism to deal with them in a sensible, adult and socially acceptable way. The problems only arise when one or both parties are arrogant, paranoid, unprofessional or have anger management issues. I'm 44 years old with 27 years experience of an office environment so do not patronise me and suggest I have "limited understanding".DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244
