I must admit, it was because of Queenie's large bold red letters that I read the whole post. I was intrigued.
I must admit, I don't mix chemicals, (OS or not), and agree with queenie - this not a clever thing to do, and could cause a lot of harm.

Thanks for caring about us Queenie :A

Posting on a forum isn't really the same situation as you mention - people have the time to read and digest, and I really think over-emotive posts are counter-productive.
allways viewed red and bold as a warning sign, made me pay attention,:T so no problems with it at all

    Hi all, :)

High up on my to-do list is to add a link to this thread right at the top of the Zillions index post and the Cleaning section of the MEGA Index.

If I haven't managed it by tomorrow somebody please give me a nudge :)

I must say I have always regarded Zoflora as a disinfectant, NOT a cleaning fluid.

I clean the surfaces with proprietary cleaner, then if I want to ensure strict hygiene (as on kitchen tops and bathroom accessories) I rinse the surface with pure water THEN wipe it with Zoflora.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

The tip about using cola as a toilet cleaner is another good example of a tip given in good faith, yet got taken out of context, but which can in fact stain your toilet and cost a pretty penny to rectify!

I tried this & ended up with a disgusting looking brown stained toilet!!!

I live in a very hard water area & in a house full of men who forget to flush after a wee!!

Any OS tips for keeping the loo clean & stain free?

I don't think you should mix bacardi with coke either.. nasty stuff.. but what are the reasons for not mixing stardrops and zoflora??.. in dilute amounts obviously.. just because a label says not to do something doesn't mean we won't.. everyone knows about the toxic gas released when you mix bleach and loo cleaners.. but what are the reasons behind this??

you are basically telling us not to do something but not why.

I've had an unopened bottle of zoflora in the cupboard for about 3 years.. keep meaning to fling it at my mother actually.. she mops.

most medication says go not drive/consume alcohol.. but how many of us take any notice of those warnings? Why is this one any more relevant?

I'm not going to crack open the zoflora just to test it.. I'm not that desperate lol.. just wondered if there was any concrete reason already as noone mentions one.

  • Hi Folks,

I can see both sides of the discussion here, but I think it's paramount that we remind everyone to be very very careful. On one hand we have manufacturers putting clear warnings on their products, on the other we have the view that they are being over cautious.

OS has always been a place where people challenge the former to a certain degree and we have to respect that. However, mixing chemicals is potentially fatal and when there is any area of concern we must implore people not to do it. We certainly do not want to stop discussion, but we also do not want people putting themselves in any danger.

Please please be very careful and cautious.

  • Queenie - I don't actually know about using milton on the cat ! I meant dishes and litter trays! I was at a cat show and there was a breeder using flash wipes on her cat - Oh God - You'd think she would know better. We do sometimes use baby wipes or flushable wipes on our cat who gets blocked glands -but I am not 100% sure it is OK - she is though. Queenie what breed is furbaby?

It's ok, patchwork cat, I did understand that you meant dishes and litter trays ;):D (I was being silly ... and a tongue in cheek way of interpreting the written word on a forum and taking it literally ;) )

Furbaby isn't a breed, it simply means my baby with fur = cat! I have a chinchilla/ragdog and calling him furbaby (an expression I picked up years ago from a US website) seems, to me, the best way to describe him on a forum :D He is *very* furry!!! Tried to use one of his pix as an avatar once but it came out all distorted so didn't bother.

  • I only ask because ragdolls are sometimes referred to as furbabies - I breed ragdolls, so was interested.
