I am fuming, I cannot believe the 'bury the head in the sand' attitude of my mother and that she has not told me about possible eviction from our HA home.
I'm 26 recently unemployed and living at home with my sister who is at college (19) and mum and stepdad it is property from the housing ac. My stepdad is on ESA and my mum is on DLA.
I was asked to look for a letter and stumbled across this one....
I regret that you have failed to comply with the terms of the possession order granted by the court on your property and your arrears are now £2818.
I have written to you a number of times about this impending issue, the last being on 7th July 2011. By now the rate of reduction originally set by the court, your arrears should now be down to £1919. You are at least £845 adrift of the set reduction plan.
The association has therefore applied to the court for a baliff to attend the property to take possession of your home.
You will be informed by the court when a date has been set, but based on previous experience I estimate this will give you about 4 weeks in which to find alternative accommodation. I recommend that you make contact with your local housing department to establish if they have any obligation to house you.
Once a date has been set by the court, you will have until then to vacate the house or the bailiff will evict you and may seize some or all of your belongings.
I know I will get slated for reading things I shouldn't but that isn't what I need and personally I am glad I have read it because my mum would not have bothered telling me until it is too late because this is her attitude, we have calls daily from debt recovery despite her saying it is sorted (I don't have my creditors calling me as I have payment plans)
I don't know if I should confront her or speak to my Nan because I face losing everything and while I am on JSA with no savings and a load of debt I cannot afford my own play at the moment and will not be a priority in the eyes of the council, I think I would tip over the edge if had to live in a B&B for months and give up my only activity
What is really going to happen? shall I confront my mum because this affects me as much as her? they won't get another house if evicted for rent arrears and have booked a fricking holiday with my mums back dated DLA and been shopping on it, my sister is ok she would end up moving in with her boyfriend of 3 years but I have nobody

Assuming you're parents are receiving HB, they've obviously been spending it on other things - perhaps the holiday?
You need to start looking for a private flat share as you won't be rehoused by the council. even in b&b, I'm afraid.0
-
Your parents wont be rehoused either as they have "intentionally made themselves homeless" by not paying the rent0
-
If they make some effort to start paying this off in a sustained and guaranteed way IMMEDIATELY along with having the HB paid direct they might just hold off the eviction. I say this based on the receipt of ESA & DLA as being a mitigating factor.
If they do not make this effort, then out you will go.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0

I asked my mum about it and surprise surprise she said it was the first letter, which I know is a lie but I don't think she realises the impact it will have on the whole family.
I won't be able to get a private bedsit because I have no money for a deposit and credit rating isn't great which is why I am still at home, surely as I am 26 they would rehouse me as I haven't made myself homeless.
I feel like asking where the money has gone and why they have done this but I won't get anywhere as my mum is hostile at best of times.
She says she will call them tomorrow but don't know how far she will get without help from shelter or cab.
I was out all day enjoying myself and all I could think of was if I can't find a job soon it will all change and I'll barely be able to eat let alone anything else, I feel like I am the only one who cares.0

I actually keep crying, because I've not done anything wrong yet I'm being punished for it.0

Your tone appears to say that you are angry with your Mum because her lack of action means that you will have to use your JSA to support yourself rather than using it to enjoy yourself. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Completely disagree that you haven't done anything wrong - you are 26 support yourself. I left home at 18, I'm not 26 with my own mortgaged home and two children. I also work part time and I'm studying for a PhD - get on with itOPs so far £42,139

This is the effect debt can have on people. I remember years ago getting an eviction order because my Mum hadnt been paying the rent. My mum had depression issues and was also alcoholic. Some people are so overwhelmed by debt they do bury their heads in the sand and hope it goes away. Sounds like you need to take charge.0

Start looking at flat shares now, the local council may help you with your deposit and as you've got four weeks you'll have your JSA to put towards any shortfall.
Has your mum being paying anything to the rent at all recently?0
