To solve Social problems firstly you need to understand why? Do you think Cameron/Milliband and their ilk have any idea why?and I'm sorry to say employing some Tsar to write a report.
Truthful answer please......;)
It's certainly a problem that the top people in all three parties are clones of one another; same schools, same Uni, same values etc more or less go straight into politics.
In the end it's up to ordinary people to get involved in local politics and seek the leadership positions.
However we are where we are and we are stuck with these people and it's not clear that others are presenting any better analysis or coherent solutions to the social unrest.0 -
I grew up on a South London council estate and living the life does not give you much insight as to why some do fine and some are complete !!!!less wrong uns.
It's not about poverty etc, it's about a sense of entitlement and instant gratification, and I must say a sense of victimhood which has been self perpetuated amongst some communities. The only thing that will control much of this recent underclass is fear of consequences of their actions along with a high chance of getting caught.
I agree with what you say but as you are well aware the vast majority of Council tenants are hardworking and honest. They deserve far more that the same old lipservice from Cameron and Milliband.
IMO the biggest hurdle to overcoming the Social problems in Society is the Human Rights act.Time and time again we see the rights of the criminal carry more weight than those if the victim and until thats addressed we have little chance of solving these issues.
Do any of the career politicians have the strength of character to act?.0 -
This is proving quite popular on Motley Fool, I didn't realise that Cleggy had a conviction for being a little loose with matches.

To be honest the journos' are all over Twitter ate the moment.
I'm not sure - my sister is a journalist, she seems pretty busy....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
The BBC has now taken an interest and is reporting that she was of previous good character, never been in trouble.
Then that sentence does seem wildly excessive....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
How long does it take to make an appeal? I bet it is five months. I need to be convinced that this is justice.
it can be a lot faster than that, and there can be an application for bail pending the appeal hearing....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Here is a comment from a person that knows her.I know Ursula personally and she is a top mother!!! She doesn't drink alcohol or take drugs and her kids are polite and well looked after! Okay she accepted stolen gear but 5 months in jail is well harsh for a person who was nowhere near the riots, especially when the judge is letting kids off who were taking part in the riots due to there age! Dont believe everything the papers tell you

I must say this brought a smile. They don't have high aspirations in Dev's neck of the woods
The police seem to have a better sense of proportion though, you would be sewing mailbags for that up here.
BTW it is not the Daily Mash.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/11yearold-girl-in-facebook-riot-plot-2336477.html"A 20-year-old man from Torquay, three men in their 20s from Newquay and an 11-year-old girl in Plymouth have all received visits by police and been given words of advice concerning entries on to social networking sites.
"None of the entries led to any disorder taking place."
The page, Plymouth Riot Save Are England from the Goverment (sic), was listed as an "event" and invited more than 400 people to take part in pre-planned copycat disorder on Tuesday outside the city centre's Poundland store  .'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. perhaps you could explain in simple terms why it bought a smile?
presumably you would have preferred they had higher aspirations and actually firebombed a couple of places0
