Agreed, but first time breastfeeders do worry about modesty until they have been feeding for a while.

    Spot on

They're just over-sized aprons or 'floaty' ponchos, easy enough to run up at home at a fraction of the cost of a shop bought one. [/Blue Peter moment]

Shes not too worried about cost, she wants a functional one that looks nice.

I found feeding mine in a baby sling was great - very discreet and I could carry on walking while I was feeding him! It was a kari me.

Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.

I never did.. the first I bf I fed her on the beach and on the bus and in the middle of a shopping centre all in the first few weeks.. and had anyone else had an opinion they would have been told mine! :p

Just because I have more than 2 children doesnt mean that I never did things for the first time once... I didnt wake up one morning with a house full.. I would think 15 years experience of breastfeeding and trying to keep myself covered up for WARMTH would be beneficial..

If you have big boobs then no amount of layering and shawls makes it subtle. I found it awful having to feed in front of people like my father in law. I also found it awkward in cafes getting a numb arm trying to hold him at the right angle and height, especially as he got older and I was getting the usual tuts from people who thought he should have been sitting up eating a roast dinner by 3 months old rather than breastfeeding. The idea of a sling is a good one. I found the Mamascarf which helps support their weight, even though it is not a sling, and hides your modesty without the risk of it slipping off is good. I was forever losing my breast pad in the early days too (didn't need to use them at all after a few weeks) and it has a little pocket in it to store that in while you are feeding. Don't they think of everything. LOL

Well thats great for you, but she IS a little worried about modesty & wants to feel comfortable & confident that shes not showing her boobs.

Honestly breast feeding mums have a hard enough time from the "you shouldn't do that in public" brigade without other breast feeding mums criticising their hesitant confidence:(

Hi, I've not had any experience myself (still working on the baby bit!) but I came across swaddle designs baby blankets when looking fo stock for the baby cakes I make. They really are beautiful blankets, modern and trendy in a wide range of designs that they show on the website being used as a cover up. She tucks a corner under her bra strap and wraps it around baby so nic and Cosy too. I have given one to a friend that has breastfed and she loved it. Also means you just need to take the blanket rather then anything else when you would already be taking a blanket for baby anyway.

They look like they'd do the job well as the neckline is presumably wide enough to be able to see baby and make sure they are OK while feeding (and to see them while you are latching them on without having to flash your tum to the world).

The only thing I would say is that the Mamascarf helps to support the baby's weight if you are out and about and don't have your favourite chair / pillow, or whatever it is you get used to using at home when you are breastfeeding. It might take a bit longer to get used to using though so I suppose it is half a dozen of one and six of the other.
  • I'll be honest as someone who openly bf as a first timer I thought those covers looked stupid and as another poster said made it more obvious what you were doing as they were so bright and patterned!! I like the clothes idea as pp and others said. Also a good tip is to go to your bf cafes/sure start centres as lots of mums will be bf and will prob give her confidence. She may also find out from these places good bf friendly places (bf rooms if needed) but best place we found was starbucks (comfy sofas/quiet areas and free water).

A lot of them do look awful, some are like tents/aprons & some of them are very little house on the prairie

The bubbalugs are a bit smarter than most.

She does try & use BF friendly places, but sometimes its not always possible, plus he's little & feeding little & (very) often.

Plus she would use it when visiting or being visited by male family members.
