cool, thanks I will check them out!

... there are some nice polka dot dresses on your friends ebay page!!!

I love the shape of 50's dresses, but its the boobs I'm struggling with to be honest - I am about a size 14 at the moment, with a 36G chest, which makes dresses that fit well hard to find - I often end up in a 16 and wearing a belt to bring the waist in... it also tends to distort the arm holes, pulling them forward at the sides, but a short sleeved cropped cardi comes in handy to evoid showing too much side-bra!

I tend to find knee length looks best on me too - any longer tho and I start to look like a lamp shade for some reason!

I always wear make up - always have, don't feel like myself without it!
  • I have the exact same problem! 34GG and a size 16! That's one of the reasons to love Get Cutie - they size their dresses in cup size normal, large and ex-large. The dresses are expensive but you will get your money's worth out of them. For the same reason I wear a lot of skirts with vests and a cardie. I can't wear halter necks either because they hurt. I have a lovely seamstress friend who will alter halternecks to straps for me - she is very clever. I'm just trying to have a think about which dresses I have had the most luck with - will have a think.

  • Had myself a relaxing long bath in a nice fresh clean bathroom. Champney's rose bubble bath (gorgeous!) thanks to Boots pharmacy for 3 for 2 offer and garlic facemask! The facemask was a Lush freebie - recycle 5 pots get a free facemask. Bit of a scent clash though!

Any beautyfication has slipped last week or two due to extenuating circumstances so need to focus on some serious polishing, dyeing, make overring, eating properly, exercising and accessorising. That was a lot of made up words!

I'm not sure when this is all going to happen as i'm all over the place at the moment but know that nothing is going to change anywhere else in my life whilst my self esteem is so low.

Aw cheer up Ruby. I know how hard things can be sometimes but it's amazing what wonders a bit of pampering can do!

Have a dodgy hug :grouphug: and keep smiling :)

  • I'm having a duvet day with DS3 who is off school poorly sick. Taken advantage by having long hot soak in a Champneys Wild Rose bath - yum yum! The smell is heavenly. Lingering but not overpowering. Even DS3 who jumped in after me recognised the smell as roses. So often when I buy bubble bath, you can smell it in the bottle but not in the water. This I can smell scenting the bathroom and my skin. I used the bubble bath, a dash of the oil (put in last minute so it soaks into the skin) and the body wash. Luxurious yes but good value for money and really lifts the spirits :). Finally got around to dyeing my hair. Using L'oreal Feria copper for the second time. You put it on towel dried hair which last time meant I had dye running down my face :( - this time I let my hair dry for longer before putting the dye on and it stayed put. The tube of conditioner that comes with it is a really good size, lasts for a few washes and leaves my hair really soft, silky, smooth and tangle free. Why can't all conditioner be this good?! So now my hair is a beautiful copper - there is a slight difference in my roots which have not been bleach washed where the colour isn't as strong however I am trying to drop the bleaching habit so will keep with it for a while longer.

Hair dried and straightened and looking really quite lovely and healthy. Face looking a bit, well fat and pasty if I'm honest so have done my eyes up to distract myself from my weight issues! Benefit brow zings, maybelline mascara in black and estee lauder liquid black eyeliner in the traditional 50's flick.

i need to remove the weeks old polish from my toes and repaint both fingers and toes. But I'm a little bit tired now! Well I was up cleaning up sick at 1am last night! I might have a nap and then reconvene. A few years ago I was encouraged by a counsellor to write a happy list - literally a list of things that made me feel happy. On the list was:
    freshly dyed red hair (tick!)
    freshly painted nails
    fantastic underwear

Will have to check back to list to see what other beauteous things are on there. And also address the underwear situation. I have got a bit bigger than my knickers and bras which does not a good foundation make. Will have to sort this out and in turn sort out my junk eating, over sleeping and lack of exercise. I would like to find a young, energetic, glamorous me from somewhere!

Aldi's Ginger Bubble bath is like this. The house smells lovely after I've used it.

You've also inspired me to colour my hair. I bought a Feria colour (might even be the copper one - it's certainly red) just need to do the skin test first.

Hope your DS feels better soon.

  • Aww I'm going to follow this thread - I've really enjoyed reading it so far and you sound like a right nice person Ruby :) Your posts also struck a chord with me as I've been putting off doing my colour, getting the nasty old nail polish off my toes and I've been doing massive wardrobe overhauls over the past few months! I'm presently expecting baby number 2 I'm around 20 weeks and he was a bit of a surprise so having just put all my pre-baby-no-1 clothes back in the wardrobe I've just had to take them back out again! I had baby 1 very early (12 weeks) so have to take things a bit easy this time, and with the lack of exercise am feeling like I also need to find the young energetic glamourous me!
Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you are usually right.
  • Congratulations don'teatthat!! You have to do your nails now whilst you can still reach them ;)!! After 3 pregnancies very close together it took me years to stop looking at maternity clothes instead of 'normal' clothes!

12 weeks is very, very prem. I hope your little one is ok. Do they know why the baby came so early? Is it something likely to repeat? Feel free to pm me if you like - I'm a qualified antenatal teacher so might be able to offer some information, reassurance or support. I might also be able to give info on very gentle exercise depending on circumstances!

My one tip for feeling glamorous whilst pregnant would be to stop buying magazines!! Do you know they actually decrease your self esteem - its been measured in tests, before reading them and then half an hour after reading them! Focus on being gorgeous and healthy. Lots of water, fresh fruit and vegetables, loads of oily fish (small one rather than big ones), probiotics and lots and lots of laughing surrounded by lovely nourishing people who make you feel fantastic!! Nourish, nourish, nourish - you're doing the most important job in the world!

I have let myself get into a right old state. Clothes all over the floor. Scant make up. Greasy fringe. And still weeks old polish on my toes!! Ruby, where is your self respect?! I think i need a love interest! Maybe that would give me a beauty kick up the bum!

  • I painted my nails :)!! Finally. Started a list/project thing with a friend who is trained in something to do with changing behaviour. And it empowered me to think - just paint your blimmin nails! So I did.

    And I feel shiney ;)
