Ruby Sew Sew's Budget Beauty Box

Cool! I'm gonna have a good look through those. I have some Transformers curtain material from the 80's that is crying out to be made into a bag and denim would be a wicked backing for it. Anyway I'm digressing from the point of the thread which is budget beauty. Possibly because I haven't done anything particularly beautifying for a while!
I have given myself a couple of days without eye make up which has rested my face. I was out gardening all day yesterday and my face really caught the sun. Whoops! Was red as a beetroot. Had a bath to wash all the gardening grub of me and put the following rescue measures in place:
gently washed face, patted dry and then slathered with origins mushroom serum (sample hanging around). Did the same again with standard moisturiser, paying attention to my neck and decolletage as well. This seems to be the bit of me that is showing ageing. I don't really have wrinkles or lines except for deep lines down to my bust. I think its probably because I always catch the sun here and the weight of my chest is just giving the elasticity of my skin a run for its money! Anyway, it worked, this morning my skin is clean, soft and both spot and sunburn free.
I also had to rescue my hands which were hideous! Mostly my nails to be fair. I scrubbed them with a nail brush first but to be honest they were dirty, flaking and weak so I have cut them right back. I used a body scrub and a nail brush to give them a good cleanse scrubbing the cuticle as well as under the nail. They've come up healthy and clean and just need a lick of polish now to brighten them back up. Just have to decide what I'm doing today before that as I would like to know that when I do get around to painting my nails they stand a chance of staying painted for a while!
I found some old diaries and in one of them I had written a list of things that make me happy. Its something I often get (antenatal) clients to do to see them sanely through into the postnatal period. It was interesting, there were lots of things on there like singing, dancing, flowers in the house etc etc but there was loads of beauty related stuff like painted nails, very red hair, a new hair cut, fantastic underwear. It contrasted with every birthday wishlist ever that always always wishes longingly for a spa day or a massage or a facial etc etc. Sometimes it is the simple things that actually make a difference to making you happy.
Maybe that is something I could do for myself this week. The kids are back tomorrow, its the last week of the holiday. I'm going to set myself a beauty goal to research a home facial. And actually do it. Will share any ideas here and let you know how I get on!
Now, i'm off to raid the cupboards and find something appropriately bank holidayish for breakfast because I am ravenous!!Commercial Debt £14587.22 Student Debt £7747.73

Hi Ruby
Hope you got your bank holiday breakfast, the facial and are now stuck into recycling the jeans!!(well we can hope)
I have been out to my friend field in the sunshine with the dogs- they loved it whilst the bugs tried to love me! Sometimes the simple things are the most uplifting like seeing sunshine on the billowing clouds over the fens.
l enjoy reading about what you are doing. Makes what i am doing sound incredibly mundane!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Just remember, I'm only writing about the good bits! Dogs and sun and fens sounds lovely. I moved a wardrobe. And then moved it back again because it didn't fit :P
When I washed my hair last night I put it into little twists and pinned them up with kirby grips. I slept on it and woke up this morning with lovely curls

I was complimented on my hair colour by a 15 year old yesterday! Get me I'm so down with the kids! Went out for a drink with a friend last night who has lost 4 stone and looks amazing. Very inspiring. She did it simply by cutting back her portion sizes!Commercial Debt £14587.22 Student Debt £7747.73

Hi Ruby
Bet your friend was thrilled with herself losing all that weight .Oh dear, there I am struggling to lose whatever pounds will shed themselves! I work really hard at it, hardly any pounds gone so then eventually sin!
Feeling proud today- swam half a mile!
Because this is a beauty thread decided to say that last night found a jar of Carnate nail polish. Stuff is old as the hills- but it works. Rubbed on the nails and buffed up with a tortoiseshell buffer.(Buffer is even older than the hills I think) Now they are all shiny and smooth. I don't get on with nail varnish at all. Googled carnate and seems Nailoid make something similar which is not stocked by either Boots or Superdrug (wouldn't you know it as I have both their loyalty cards!!)
After my little fling on here back to the bin bags etc!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

I'm trying out a weight loss tip from a friend of mine who is in training for her 5th Ironman!! I should say first of all that I resolved several years ago to give up dieting for good. Did have a recent lapse with WW but couldn't get on with it at all. I now have personalised targets from a PT friend and am going to incorporate this new tip - eat 10 pieces of fruit and veg a day. You'll be so busy trying to get your 10 a day that you won't be craving rubbish or feeling hunger pangs. I am going to start by aiming for 7 (which I read years ago in a Red magazine). I've been inspired as well by a Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall article in the Guardian at the weekend about eating more veg and less flesh. My diet and nutrition has gone to pot as of late and I am super focussed on turning things around for myself - see my diary 'Where There's Muck There's Brass' for the ins and outs.
Any other beauty updates? Caught the sun a bit today blowing up the paddling pool for the boys - spent about an hour with the foot pump so expecting super toned legs tomorrow
!! Oh and fantastic news - I got a tax rebate today!! Equivalent to a months salary so I'm gonna spruce up my underwear draw, work wardrobe and get some work shoes!!

Put some Preparation H on it. That's what i was advised when I had mine done. I had hardly any scabbing and no itching
