David Many thanks for your input and kind comments.

I contacted BT yesterday and confirmed that I would authorise for an Engineer to call to find the fault for me. The DC Team called and ran another check on my line and said that they could not find a fault in the line.

This evening your Digital Care Team called to say that they had booked an Engineer to call on Monday the 22nd sometime in the morning.

I must thank you for your offer of help, but seeing that an Engineer has been booked, and the DC Team has say that there is no fault showing in the line, I cannot see how you can help me. You are very welcome to run some checks from your side of the fence if you think that it may help me, and I thank you for it.

    kind regards

    Good morning...

This morning I received a call from a BT Engineer who asked what problems I was experiencing. I told him the same as discussed here in the Forum. He then said ok, it sounds like a Problen in the local Exchange, I will check it out and call you back.

About 25 minutes elapsed when the phone rang, this time the ring was normal, ring-ring, as apposed to the longer ring etc. When I picked up the receiver it was the BT Engineer who said that I shoulod not experience anymore problems as the fault was in the local Exchange.

Now I am very gratefull to this BT Engineer who found the fault very quickly. I remaim a little confused as to how the BT gentleman who said that he had checked the line, on three occasions, would say that there was no fault.

My only thought is that when I received the confirmation from BT that an Engineer would call at my home address, they put down my old address that I had left well over two years ago.

Anyways we have a result and I thank all Forum member for their help in this matter.

    kind regards

The remote test will only find certain predefined faults. So when the BT call centre droid tests the line remotely and no fault is found, they should be reporting 'No Fault Found' rather than 'there is no fault'

DvardysShadow Many thanks for your input and comments. Maybe this fault that the BT Engineer found can only be done at the local Exchange.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
