BT Phone Ringing Continually upon connection..

ukcarper Thanks for your input.
I used two Binatone telephones for the test, I found the second Binatone that I had used as a spare, I checked that it was working before I tried the test.
Tomorrow I will try one more time using a BT Paragon 500 and see what happens.
At the moment we are using two of these Paragons that are running from one line that is coming out of the Test Box itself.
We live in a Bungalow that is 54 years old. Maybe I should run new copper cable from the Test Box to the two phones replacing the sockets. Or is that not a good idea ??

Once you remove bottom part of NTE you are disconnecting all your internal wiring from line. Your internal wiring should be connected to part of NTE you remove.
The only cable connect to the remaining part should be the line.
If the fault is present when phone is plugged into test socket running additional cables will not improve things.0 -

I think that what I am concerned about is that should the BT Engineer, whilst carrying out his tests, could find a fault within my dwelling and it could be used as an excuse for charging me the full amount.
Or should I put my full trust in BT's findings ?

I think that worries a lot of people. I’m not sure how often BT try to charge people when the fault is not inside their property. The last time I had a fault was quite a while ago but I went through the above procedure and the fault was outside and I wasn’t charged.
I did read of a case where someone had wired their extension to the wrong side of the NTE so that the internal wiring was still connected when the front plate was removed.0 -
ukcarper Many thanks for your input and comments.
Yes I agree fully with your comments. I was looking at what BT call their boundery. Check it out and if I'm not mistaken, BT will not be responsable for any connection coming into you home that is inside your boundery, so it would appear that does not include the Test Box.
Today I went into the loft and did another test, with the same results, but with me removing the Test Box cover numerous times to conduct these tests, I may have disturbed the wiring just behind the cover because now the handset of the only telephone that is connected to the BT Line is crackling away to itself continiously, so we are without a telephone now.
So it looks as though I will have to call in the Engineer to sort out whatever is the problem.
kind regards to yourself and other interested members.
Just one last point... Why can I still get the internet ???

Just one last point... Why can I still get the internet ???Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Heinz Many thanks for your input and comments.
I though that I was having a major Senior Moment with this issue getting progressively more complicated. First thing this morning our telephone worked ok if you lifted the receiver on the first ring tone, now as I say it is continuously ringing. We have been experiencing very heavy downpours in our area and I wonder if the problem could be water ingress somewhere outside.

DVardysShadow Thank you for your input and comments.
I cannot recall saying that I can get the internet with the faceplate removed. When the faceplate is removed the whole system is dead.
Sorry if I did not make it clear.

Hi BertieUK
I can look into this for you and run some tests from my side to see if I can locate the cause of the fault for you, if you would like me to help checkout my profile section were you will find my contact details.
