Orange - Massive data bill abroad

Hi, I need some urgent help please
I was abroad for two weeks and phone orange who gave me a 30MB bundle which I apparently went over (I was told by them this was alot so I went for it). I came back to a bill of £180.00 which I thought was high.

Then I logged in online and looked at Augusts usage so far and my data costs are around 650.00 !! There is absoloutely no way I have used this amount of data. If I had been using so much then Julys Bill (180.00) would have been higher.

I contacted orange who have cut off everything now however I need to speak to bill dept in the morning. I have spoken to them yesterday and they said they cant establish this latest amount until 3rd Sept when it will come out however I cant wait this long and worry about it.

Any advice :( ? Thanks

Were you travelling outside of the EU? If so, Orange charge £8 a mb so you used 87mb approximately. If you were within the EU, Orange should have cut you off at £40.

My advice would be to spend two minutes on this forums researching other threads, I assure you there are plenty of them.
Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug). ;)

How big this amount is you think? With £8/Mb it's just 80Mb.

And did you notice on your bill if the bundle was added? Sometimes bundles are not added until the next billing cycle, so you may have requested the bundle gone on holiday and then the bundle was added upon your return :o

Where were you not all EU contries are classed as EU for data, Turkey isn't for example.

What were you using the phone for? and do you leave any apps such as Facebook or Twitter running in the background usually?

Turkey is not a EU country.

EU = European Union, not Europe.

BTW, Norwey any Switzerland are not members of EU. Don't know if the data limit is in force there though.

If you add a data bundle, it opts you out of the EU price cap. You will have been sent a text informing you that you've been opted out.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

Hi, 80mb could be as little as browsing 80 web pages !! Never mind watching video's, downloading, facebook, emails etc. etc.

    I was in Greece.

I used it mainly for facebook and the app is on my phone however I did turn data roaming etc off each time I had finished checking things.

I guess my best bet is just to plead with Orange for a discount
