Orange - Massive data bill abroad

What is it with people using their phones abroad and then being 'shocked' at the cost. Leave your bloody phone at home or buy a local sim for !!!! sake.0

Isn't that what data roaming bundles are for.
I think the problem is just people with no technical ability, not knowing enough about their phones, and the data they actually use.
When smartphones were the playthings of geeks, you didn't get this. Now that everyone has one, even though they have no idea of how they work or what they do, you get these problems.0 -
Can you point to confirmation of this?

What happens if I have a Travel Data bundle on my account? If you have a Travel Data bundle with an allowance that is over the EU data limit (e.g. over 16MB if you are a pay monthly customer or over 12MB if you are a pay as you go customer), the EU data limit does not apply.
The EU data limit does apply if you have a Travel Data bundle that is less than 16MB or 12MB.0 -

Shocked at the cost as I followed the advice of my network provider and got a bundle which I was told was for alot of data. I never asked for a lecture.0 -

I have just read up on this. I actually recieved a text saying I had used half the data limit so I removed it which stopped my internet access. I then phoned Orange who told me I can put on a 30mb bundle for around £15.00 which is for alot of data. I feel I have been incorrectly advised & will be taking this up as a complaint!0 -

Orange have very, very poor value data bundles and horrendous costs if you go over.
However, "a lot" is subjective and if you were told what it cost and what you got for your money, then they hardly misled you. You should know what you usually use and decide if 30mb is a lot or not.
This forum is, regrettably, somewhat full of threads where people have incurred large roaming bills. It always comes down to one thing - the user hasn't got a clue about how much data they use, how much web pages, videos, pictures etc incur, how much per Mb it costs if you go over.
It's always someone else's fault. The fact that OP hasn't bothered to RTFM is glossed over. Usually !!!!
However, in your case, there is one glaring anomaly and that is if you were in Greece there should be a £40 limit as per EU legislation, so that is where you should start. Check your bill to see where the roaming was deemed to be charged and if it was Greece, Orange have no reason to charge you more than the EU limit.0 -

Data bundle was chosen, the EU cap was lifted, as per the T+C's.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0

I am not sure what exactly was 'removed', but this sounds like £40 limit was removed on the OP's request.
Yes - I should have taken that into account. I thought that OP bought a data bundle and when that run down, the EU limit would kick back in with the other half of his data that he didn't use yet. It doesn't - sorry.
So, from the Orange web site "What is the EU Data limit?
We know how easy it is to get carried away sending data when you’re abroad and come back to bills you didn’t expect. That’s why from 1st July we’ve added a data limit of 16MB per month (pay monthly and mobile broadband) or 12MB per month (pay as you go) to your account so that you’ll never pay more than €50 (approximately £44 inc VAT) for sending data in the EU."
It's as I say, if you know what you get, know what you use and know what it costs per Mb, you shouldn't go wrong.0
