Thanks Thrupneybit. I hadn't thought of the one entry rule bit, and to be honest I was put off by the sales letter. Is anything that needs a sales letter like that really any good? Being new to comps, I just wanted to check I wasn't missing a trick :)

You said it, just treat it as a 'Sales' gimmick.
You should never have to pay to enter a competition unless you're buying a qualifier for an entry form comp, Likewise when you have won something like a holiday you should not have to send any money to receive anything, if you get anything like this offered it's always a timeshare type scam.

    Hi hjb

You have won quite a few prizes  Is this all in 2007? Do you mind if I ask how long you spend on entering comps?

I don't enter the comps where I can't make use of the prizes either. It would be nicer for someone who actually wants the prize to win it.

    Hi,

I spend lots of time entering competitions! Any spare time really I enter comps, mainly the ones posted on here but sometimes others too

eeek I'm in too and it's not good.

I was logged out and couldn't work out how to get back in since the header's all over the login box. Then I remembered if I tried to post it would make me log in.

It's also gone reallly slow - presumably since there are now a very large number of people accessing their development server which can't be very good.

I hope someone fixes it soon.

Got an email from Real People tonight explaining what happened with their comps:

Don’t be alarmed - your competition entries were received on time! We
realise that in the last week we may have by mistake emailed you saying
your entry was never received. This is a computer glitch in our system, and
a genuine error - we’re so sorry for alarming you.

As you know Real People Competitions are fantastically popular - to improve
the way in which we handle entries, we recently changed the company that
processes our email competition entries so that we can deal with them more
    efficiently.

Part of this process is making a copy of all of the old competition entries
which we keep for auditing purposes. Unfortunately, while creating this
copy some auto-reply emails were generated. You may have received a notice
saying your previous or current email entries were not received – this is
not the case. Please be assured your competition entry was safely received
at the time you sent it.

We apologise for any confusion this may have caused. We are terribly sorry
if you receive this email multiple times – we wanted to contact everyone
who may have received one or many non-delivery reports to assure all email
entrants that their entries were, and still are being received.

If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact us at

Why would anyone need to know my income to let me win a holiday?

I had a phonecall at work today (always give my work no) saying I'd won a runner up prize of a week self catering in a choice of 4 places, but unless I confirmed that my income was over £25,000 pa I couldn't have it!

This seemed very strange, and I don't give those kind of details out, so I just said 'fine, thanks' and put the phone down.

Was it for real? Why should they need to know my income? Seems odd.

I got the same phone call, and when they started asking their questions, I told them that if this was a real competition, they didn't need to know the answers " ~Answer was its not a competition but a promotion. My reaction to this was I'm not interested, and put the phone down. I wish I knew which site it had come from, as I would have had a right go at them. Wasting my comping time, whatever next.

I've also had a couple of letter yesterday, with the usual you have entered a comp and have definatley won a prize ~ just ring (this b expensive number) and we'll tell you what it is ~ yeah, right, as if ~ the shredder's full of them, makes good bedding at the local dogs home!!
