For cancellation most companies want to speak account holders for one it can make it harder to cancel. In your case I would cancel put of prinical (can't spell) ESP if you already got third party access already set up

All new boxes supplied are HD now (they do not supply any other kind), you don't have to have HD, the box will still work with your SD TV.
If you don't want to pay the Sky price, why not just get a replacement Sky+ box on eBay for next to nothing (or freegle for nothing)?
Or if you look at the sticky at the top of this page, you can see a list of suppliers who will replace the PSU that is probably failing on your existing box.
Replacement Sky+ remotes are available at any electrical wholesaler or online retailer.
The source of the DD is irrelevant, to Sky that is just an account number and sort code, it doesn't have to have any connection to the account holder.

Any Freesat PVR box is a straight swap for an existing Sky box, just swap the 2 F connectors over, assuming that you already have the twin feed for Sky+.
    NB: it's Humax, not Dumax.

Out of interest, is there any "record" function on these boxes?? Our Sky HD box is only 18 months old but has just started freezing, despite doing all the "fixes". I'm sick of Sky's prices too. Happy to leave, but would really miss Sky+ recording... We are also not able to get Virgin without digging up the carpark, apparently.

Yes, Freesat boxes are available as both straight digiboxes or as PVR versions. Humax Foxsat HD or HDR respectively is what you want.

Thanks, I will seriously look into that. I would happily give up Sky tomorrow but the OH worries about losing Sky Sports... I absolutely refuse to pay £199 for a new Sky HD box though, just for the privilege of paying them a monthly subscription too. I'd rather spend the money on a recordable freesat box and lose the monthly payments altogether.

Apparently they "don't do" just Sky+ boxes now, you have to get HD. So, I asked, what if you don't HAVE an HD TV? Ah well, you get the HD box still but you just don't pay for the HD packages BUT... you pay more for the box!!

We have an old Sky+ box stuck in a cupboard. It worked perfectly well the last time it was switched on, but that was about 5 years ago now.... I'd check eBay, I bet you can get one for peanuts. If this didn't cost so much to post I'd send it to you!!!

    That's a lovely thought thank you! :)

I spoke to Mr Sessie when he finally got home, exhausted, the other night.

We're just going to find a Freesat/whatever box when he ever gets another day off and he will then take great delight in phoning them, saying he has to go out but that they can talk to me and then leaving me to... calmly and quietly (..... NOT!) give them the elbow!!

I'm not expecting freebies, I'm not expecting preferential treatment. What I AM expecting is NOT to be penalised for not having something that's beyond my means. Sky intend to do that. So... in the words of the Dragons.... I'm out.

  • If you don't get the deal you want cancel anyway!! You have to give a months notice so if you do not hear from them (which I expect you will) call back on day 29 and say you have changed your mind.
    According to ABBA apparently it's a rich mans' world . . .:p
