Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wednesday, 10th August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Good morning everyone.
I hope you and yours are all safe and sound. Particular good wishes to those of you close to all this dreadful unrest and those with relatives in the police forces. My hopes and prayers are with you all x
Shepherd's warning here earlier this morning and now it is very grey and gloomy:( Need to do the very, very last bits of washing and get packing finalised.
Need to finish off all the perishables lying around and pack breakfast / lunch stuff for our expedition tomorrow.
The boys are so excited about the holiday, particularly the 2 younger ones.
Best get going now, so all the best to you all,
BB - hope you got the rogan spice mix recipe - I've never done a pm before, just replied to them.
Hugs peeps,
Cheers, Silver x

Churchmouse, I do hope your son is ok, and everyone else managed to stay safe overnight.
DD and I spent another day chipping paint off the walls yesterday, we have done about 80% of it, but we need the radiator and loo moved to do the rest, will hopefully get the rest done on saturday.
I am off to work today, so will leave dd a few jobs to be getting on with here, gnocci salad and garlic bread for dinner, I need to out a wash on too.
have a good day all and stay safe xx0 -
Morning everyone
So looking at the news the madness in Brum and further afield continued last night but it would appear that at least one man died in Aston last nightOK that's nothing new really for Aston but it would appear he was trying to defend the area from the gangs on the rampage
How many people will need to die before this madness stops
Anyway no idea what plans are for today. Don't really feel in the mood for some reason. Just the usual entertaining kids.
Doing very little OS or indeed housework, no idea what's for tea
Hugs and spoons all round. Have a good day OS or not and I hope everyone is safe xx

Good Morning all and I hope you all got through the night o.k. without being set fire to by rioters I must say that photo of the lass jumping from the building will make the photographer a fortune. It sums up all the terror that people are going through with the thieving toe-rags who are on the rampage I hope the plods catch them all and they get banged up
Well a couple of bits of good news for me yesterday,my DGD Katie had her interview in the morning and they phoned her in the late afternoon to offer her the job so I am delighted for her and she starts on 1st September. Then DD came home from work having had her 6 month appraisal and her job is now permanant as her 6 month trial period is up and her boss is very pleased with her .The boys were brilliant yesterday and I hardly knew I had them.We watched a Pirates of the Carribean film the first one from the boxed set my eldest loaned us and that took up most of the morning (we have two more to watch one this morning and the other tomorrow ) then the boys went out on their bikes to play on the green in front of the house and apart from the odd drink or two I never saw them until almost 5.Ben and I sat and watched the rolling news and I did some knitting so a good day was had by all.Today I may take them to the little shops locally just to buy some milk and to pick up a prescription that I need on holiday and then its haircuts for three of them and they are looking a bit long and shaggy looking .Local barbers for three No.1s, no messing around with daft hair cuts they are little boys
Hope everyone has a peaceful day
Take care all

Morning all,
OH got in from work at 2am and was back out again at 7am - if this keeps up he really will need to get digs in Hampshire as the commute is 1hr30. He does get most of Nov/Dec off so it's not all bad.
One more day at work for me after today! My train journey starts at about 6:30am on Friday. It's going to be a long weekend i think!
Lunches are done, dinner - if OH is home i'll make the stir fry he was supposed to have last night, I'm not sure what i want. Have plenty in so should be able to come up with something.
Need to do lots of washing when i get in as won't be around on the weekend to do it.
Hope everyone is safe.

Morning everyone
Thinking of everyone affected by the riots, stay safe x
If these thugs want to fight, put them on a plane and let them stand by our real heros and fight like men in Afghanistan - don't think too many of them would be volunteering - makes all us normal folks disgusted.
Overcast but dry here at the moment. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock. Dinner last night was delicious fish, new pots and veg. Washing got dry yesterday so will make the boys beds when I get back from work. Remembered to take the lamb out of the freezer last night so that's defrosted - I'll be making lamb casserole tonight for dinner. Need to call in to get some more fresh supplies after work today - shouldn't be more than £5-£10. Will also make another loaf of HM bread tomorrow to go with HM lasagne that we're having tomorrow night.
Didn't really do much last night, made dinner, watched tv, fell asleep on sofa, woke up and then went to bed!
Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Morning all,
Happy Birthday Lou. I don't often post here but just couldn't sleep last night after watching the news. I hope that everyone is safe.
Lots of tidying up to do, DS's both having friends to stay over. DD has a trial shift in a bar near her Uni tonight, so fingers crossed for her, not sure how she will get on it's very different to the local bar she sometimes works in.
Have a peaceful day.

Happy Birthday to Lou!
Hope all are safe today - the news fills me with absolute horror at the moment. Wish I could see how it'll all get resolved. Very glad DS and DGD are staying here at the moment.
DNiece went for first job interview - support worker at psychiatric hospital - and was offered it on the spot!
DGD on daily swimming course this week - and was managing wothout any bands or floats by the end of yesterday's session. Very proud of herself she was.
Have WM nearly done and have mopped kitchen floor already. DH bought me a Kindle which arrived yesterday. Am loading it with mostly free books. Spent yesterday evening reading Little Women - forgot how much I'd loved it as a child! Thought Kindles would be useful for our holiday next month asthey'll save carrying excess weight in books to read! So I gave one to DH as a birthday pressie and he was so smitten he bought mine as an Unbirthday pressie!! Not doing too much ATM as am enjoying DGD being here too much!
Hope you all have a good day and that those near these horrible disturbances are OK. Take care.Resolution:
