My partner has gone on a skiing holiday for the past 10 years and I have no issues with him continuing to do so. Last year, I went to visit my parents abroad, he didn't come as needed to stay for work being done on the house. This year, we went away together last month and will be going away together again in two weeks... who knows next year!

Food: we have very different tastes and we have found it easier to shop separately. We do sometimes eat together?

Finances: We are both independent and agree that we are free to do what we want with the disposable income we have?

Are we flat sharing? No, we are totally committed to eachother, we do do plenty of things together, just not everything. I would give up anything for him and know he would too, we just don't need to share everything to feel we are a couple.

I might be old fashioned but that sounds quite sad!

How about no longer being masochistic?
    How about remembering your divinity?
How about unabashedly bawling your eyes out?
How about not equating death with stopping?

The world's changed...I think relationships have changed too. Watching my mum struggle to pay bills with 4 children without ANY financial support from my dad has taught me not to depend on my OH for money...

Anyway, I just wanted to update and say that the woman from HSA actually came into work today so I just joined that :) Awesome!

But will rely on the state?

I dont think needing help for medical costs is "depending on the state" DH.

How strange, I would have thought that would teach you not to get involved with men who don't want to support their families.

Well, it didn't...obviously. And I'm not planning a family now, or any time soon.

A family doesn't just mean children.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter, you can run your life any way you like but you can't expect the state to care about the rules of your particular relationship.
