Re-assurance needed over PCN

Options
Parked in Matalan / The Range / Megabowl car park in Exeter and had no change. Couldn't see attendant so went into the Range and was approx 10 mins. Came out to see PCN from Town and City Parking ltd. £20 if I pay within 10 days.

Annoyingly I remembered I had some change in my car which would have been refunded as I had spent enough money in the range.

While I agree I didn't get a ticket I wasn't abusing the car park and parking all day or anything stupid - please advise.

We regulars would all advise you to read the sticky threads at the top and any other thread on the first page that takes your fancy (except threads about REAL parking tickets from Councils):

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163

You will soon understand that you must just ignore the boguc PCN as it's a scam, it's NOT a fine. Make sure you watch the Watchdog link and check out the preview pics of the 'scary debt collector letter-chain' that you can look forward to filing in your drawer marked 'ignore, scam'.

ALWAYS simply ignore any private parking ticket. Only ever take seriously a ticket from the Police, TFL or a Council.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Good! Hope you are suitably reassured that it's a scam.

Tell your friends & family about it and show them the scary letters, I show colleagues my letters from 3 years ago if ever they actually think that private PCNs are real! Nothing happens, your credit rating is unaffected and no bailiffs can call without Court, which wont happen.

    Ignore.

But thanks to you graciously giving your custom to The Range you will have to put up with some threatening letters. I wouldn't be spending another penny in that store personally.

Expect a threatogram letter in the post where they will use words like 'Illegal', 'Legal Action', 'Court', 'Bailiffes' etc etc and they will say 'Please kindly note the fine has now risen to....(insert amonunt). Then after this months later you get a letter from 'Debt Recovery & Legal Services' contractors. In which some more money will be added on to that. Again full of all kinds of scary words and deadlines (although the date the letter arrives the deadline is expired).

They try and frighten people with the above scary buzzwords and a lot of people who don't know their rights or the law will panic and pay the money. For a 20-80 quid debt its going to cost more in manhours, wages, admin costs, time, hassle for them to even entertain applying for small court.

You should know that people are regularly taken to court for non-payment of IEA infringement notices such as yours.

It is in your best interests to make prompt payment and discharge your debt.

Make sure you pay and display next time. Consider checking for change before you leave the house.

    Ignore this troll!

    IEA my ar5e!!:p

You should know that the PPCs who are stupid enough to waste money going to court lose regularly [as in always].

  • oh goodness, now i don't know what to do! Having read so many threads and comments i had decided to ignore what is a ridiculous fine anyway, but now that dude has scared me! I was at Matalan/ B and M a few weeks ago, was there for 2 hours and then received a £50 fine. Baring in mind i regularly shop there and have never seen these 'clearly signed' instructions, and the fact i spent over £200 that day, i was furious. Had decided to ignore the damned thing as advised, but really couldn't face going to court etc. Grrrrr. Dirty scumbags!

You are falling for their scare tactics.

Read up on the truth about them "regularly taking people to court"
