Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 9th August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning everyone.

Feeling proper angry this morning about things I saw on TV last night. Can't express really quite how I feel so I shall probably leave it there.
Not sure what plans are for today, weather not looking too good ATM.
Not sure what's for tea either. Sorry not much OS I will try and do better :o On the plus side I ordered the Collins Gem Free Food so looking forward to having a go at some foraging.

Hugs and spoons all round. Have a good day and where ever you are I hope you are safe xx

Thanks for starting the thread Bitsy. I was just looking for it and couldn't find it anywhere.

Beautiful and sunny here at the moment. Will get final washes done and line dried (fingers crossed) so that everything is ready for our packing.

Going into the big city today, so will probably have a not very OS meal - DH will pay:)

If we need something later it will be one of the hm meals in the freezer.

My heart goes out to anyone who is affected by the arson, thefts and rioting. It sounds dreadful in places.

Wishing you all a happy Tuesday with hugs for those who need or want.
    Cheers, Silver x

Thanks for starting Bitsy - was just about to do that!

Got up early today, walked dog and had some breakfast. OH was off to work at 6am and may be doing an all nighter...we shall see.

Going to my mums to get my train ticket to Scotland sorted tonight and to speak to my grandad on the phone.

Egg salad for my lunch today, had some WW toast for breakfast, dinner will be a jacket potato with beans. OH has a huggge packed lunch filled with treats. - He's very much a savoury person, can any one think of anything that not the usual pasties/sausage rolls i can give him?

Just watching the news, these kids don't even know what they are rioting about - it's rediculous!! Hope everyone in the affected areas are okay.

Morning Bitsy and Silver and all who follow,

Up early again this morning as DS is off on a camping trip with his friends this morning and I have to get him up.
It is going to be just me and DD2 during the day this week as OH is at work and DS and DD1 are away, it will be really quiet.

Am going to have a go at cooking tandoori chicken in the tandoor that a friend gave to me today, apparently it takes ages.

Will be in touch with my parents today as they live in Birmingham and the rioting has spread there, they do live quite a way from Handsworth where it is taking place.

Have a large crop of potatoes to dig up as well, any hints for storing them?

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

Morning folks OH WHAT A NIGHT!! and not in a nice sense.

These are nothing to do with social deprivation, just sheer gang thuggery. I am not going to play the racial card, as there are good and bad in all communities, but there is a gang culture in inner city areas which does need to be tackled from within their communities. Certainly if my child was of that age, he/she would be sat in the house with me, not allowed out on their own. My heart goes out to all those innocent people affected, by this and the police having the face the mobs, and all the business ruined.

My DS is in London, luckily in an area away from the violence, but still BBM'd him before I went to bed to ensure he was away from it.

2 loads of towels done last night, and in the conservatory waiting to go out. Next load going in in a mo.

Want to get organised for my birthday BBQ planned for Saturday, keeping checking the weather, current showing 9 mph winds with 20mph gusts, but dry, don't think it is a good idea for gazebos up in that! At least better than last night when it was showing 24mph! Can I have some vibes please for dry weather. :rotfl: :o:o

(((hugs))), Hi-5's, spoons, and good vibes to all. Take care DG

    Morning everyone

Dry and sunny here, so have put a line of washing out, hopefully it will get dry whilst I'm at work. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock.

Dinner last night was bangers, mash, veg and gravy, tonight we're having fish, chips/jacket, beans/veg.

Spent some time on pc last night doing work for the rally next year, need to get initial planning stages done, trying to organise the bus trips at the moment ....... nightmare just trying to co-ordinate everything - I'm sure it will be fine.

House is so quiet without the boys, seems really strange, but they will be having a great time with their grandparents as always. Have dentist appointment on Thursday also the boys have a check up, not my favourite place but does need doing!

Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Morning all looks bright and sunny but I don't think it will last somehow.I have been busy with the boys this week and today I'm off again to look after them.I am trying not to watch too much t.v. with them as I'd rather get them outside playing if possible Mikey (7) has just learned to ride his bicycle without stabalisers and he is chuffed to bits and so proud of himself asnd you have to go and watch as he shows you how clever he has become bless him .The boys are being extremely good and I have got them returning their plates to the sink after their meals and yesterday Ben hoovered throughout the house (three floors) and Jack tidied up the sitting room.
DGD Katie has an interview at a Sure Start nursery today for a job so I am keeping my fingers crossed but there are 20 applicants for every job locally at the moment and we live in the so-called 'rich' south east. She fineshed college in June and has been trying ever since to get a full time job.She works seasonally at a local tourist place but that will finish in October until next March, and thats not that well paid either but its seen her through her college course.

I get the dinner started in the evening for DD for when she comes in at 6.30p.m. (her OH times vary depending on the traffic)so I normaklly get home around 6.45.A long day from 8.15 but if it helps them out during the long summer holidays I don't mind We only have until Sunday then we are all away for a fortnight which we are all looking forward to.
Hope everyone is enjoying their summer holidays ,we are just hoping for some dry weather this month .
Take care everyone and will pop in again when I get a minute
    Cheers JackieO xx

    Morning all,
DGD went home last night so Iwas looking forward to a lie in, guess who was wide awake at 5am. Ive packed DH's lunch of hm quiche and apple pie cooked y/day whilst DGD was having her nap. I didn't find time to mow the lawn so that's a must today. Looking quite nice out.

A friend is coming today to pick my brains, she wants to buy a house to let out and needs to know how to go about finding a tenant, insurance, agreements, deposits etc. so I'll do us a lunch of tuna salad hopefully we can sit in the garden. Must run around with the vacume and follow the trail of DGD's crumbs. Must go and pay a cheque into the bank, It's been sitting here since last Tues.
Got to post a parcel back to Joe Browns, I ordered 2 skirts size 12 I measured the waist and they should be at least a 14 as they were hanging on my hips.
I found loads of little mushrooms growing in most of my pots, I used the potting compost I bought at Lidle. Other pots that I didn't use the compost haven't got any growing so it seems the compost was dodgy. Anyone know how to get rid of them? The more I pick them the more they grow back. :(
Off to scuttle DH out the door.
Happy hols to those going away and ((((hugs))) to all.

    Morning all,

Bright and beautiful day here, have got a wash on the go, which should dry wel ltoday.

Slept in till 8 which was bliss, dd and I spent most of yesterday chipping paint off the bathroom walls, which we will continue today, it was painted a 'sunny' yellow, which was too much in a small bathroom, and it looks much bigger with bare walls.

Bathroom was delivered yesterday, and its beautiful, cant wait to get it in place, OH and I have taken a week off in a couple of weeks and will do it then, I still have a couple of bits to buy, I need a pvc roller blind, and a light fitting, will have a look online today.

Dinner tonight is some leftover roast chicken with new spuds and veg, will prepare it all in a while and then get on with the bathroom.

The news about the riots really saddens me, hope everyone is safe, one of our posters was it Rosie ? was from Birmningham hope she and her family are safe.

OK better get some cereal and get on.

Anniestar pop in and post so that we know you are ok xx

    Have good days all xx

    morning!

got 2 days off now:j am off later to collect my friend from the station so looking forward to a good natter.
First I'm picking up my sister and we're going for a coffee, think she's gopne stir crazy at home for a week with her foot in plaster:Dplus I can check how she's doing on her slimming world plan. She's done really well so far - half a stone in 2 weeks:T

Tea tonight is another easy tea - fish and chips done in the oven as I'm in and out all day.
Have a had a clean and tidy through ready for my friend although she wont notice as she's not exactly houseproud herself:D

(((hugs))) to all those affected by the rioting. How destroying businesses will help them get jobs amazes me:mad: its just an excuse for thieves to have a go at other peoples property. As Donny Gal said - the parents should be keeping their kids indoors.
I'm certainly fed up with the do-gooders sympathising with the rioters - how does destroying your community help you and those around you?
    Sorry :o- rant over:D

I hope everyone has a great day x
    Do what you love :happyhear
