But at the end of the day there ARE things that HAVE to be paid....and I HAVE to make the money to pay for them...so I have to take that into account too...
This is exactly what setting a budget means.

Separating things that HAVE to be paid and things you WANT to buy is how a successful budget is created.

To quote Charles Dickens in "David Copperfield"

"Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pound ought and six, result misery."

    Hey Helen.

I am guessing it is hard to budget when you don't have an actual rate per hour. On the thing that tells you how much money you have earned does it also tell you how many hours you have been logged on for? If it does, try taking the last say 4 weeks data, Add the hours and the money so you have one figure for each then divide the amount of money by the number of hours worked and you will have an approximate rate per hour. The more data you do this with the more accurate it will be. You would also have to work roughly the same times as you did in your example dataset but it will at least give you a rough guide.

Why don't you try planning your week. Make a table with days across the top and half hour/hour blocks then colour in the blocks based on what you intend to do for that half hour/hour use a key so you remember each of the colours and stick to it. I'm guessing you don't sleep in 8 hour blocks and apparently it is better for you to have 2 4 hour sleeps so make sure you leave yourself time to do this. Sleep is key i think. If you are trying to function on catnaps you will never be at your full potential. Start by filling in the times you will be at college/placement/supervision etc then when you have agreed to meet friends/family then fit work and sleep in where they will work best for you but you should try and at least have 4 hours sleep in a row, none of this "i think i'll just sleep for an hour then work". Here's a rough example of what mine would look like. Obviously you would have different items in yours :)
