Is Nelson,Lancashire a good place to live?

I have visited Nelson, lancashire quiet a few times. It seems like a good place to move into.

The majority of people there are Pakistanies.
They are building a mosque and a islamic community centre there.

Just if anyone knows anything about Nelson,Lancashire.
How is it?

Thanks help will be appreciated :D

depends what you are looking for. To some people, the fact that the majority are pakistanis and there is an islamic community centre would be a significant disincentive. From your user name, I would hazard a guess that those are appealing factors to you? There were racial tensions in the area in the past - not quite as bad as the rioting in neighbouring burnley though - but I don't know what if anything have been done to repair community relations.

The thing that sticks in my mind is that Tesco opened a brand new superstore there and closed it again 12 months later. Can't say I've ever heard of that anywhere else bearing in mind the dominance of the Tesco brand.

it has some of THE cheapest property in the country - there has to be a reason for that - is probably because many folks think it an undesirable place to live ... for whatever reason. It has old housing stock, poor retail facilities and high unemployment

According to Wikipedia the population is 30.70% Asian. Not a majority. And reading the article you could choose to live among whichever population makes you more comfortable.

Do you have a job offer in Nelson? That would help any decision.
    Been away for a while.

Not exactly got the nicest reputation. It is EXTREMELY cheap though. As above, places are usually cheap for a reason. I went out with someone from Nelson (a complete obsessive psycho actually, but that's another story...!) back in the '90s. Even he said it wasn't a great place. It used to be quite industrial but a lot has shut down. Some nice scenery outside it, but not somewhere I'd choose to live.

I live nearby and work in Nelson. Some bits are very cheap - some areas more expensive. A lot of shops shut down though ie Tesco and recently Argos

I used to work there. I haven't been back since.

It's an awful place and with me working in the bank i saw the full spectrum of people.

    Not for me.

If you have to live near Burnley go with Read or Simonstone if you can afford it.

For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!
