vista is completely cracked NOW not in the future all drm turned off all snoopy bits turned off.you wouldn't lose anything on your pc it would all be there anyway.microsoft could not destroy your data!!

Havent seen any retail version cracked so your still going on the Beta replace stuff. for the RTM..When Genuine advantage is fully operational NONE of these cracked copies will update or work simply because they return a version number that is beta. Microsoft have it in the EULA that if the system returns a non legal response it CAN disable and render the OS useless...

Do some research and you will see.. Microsoft has even said itself that it will let the pirates version still log on to use IE and other features before fully disabling but this will only last while the BETA versions of update are still online... after that they will kill all illegal versions... Dont believe all the hacked/cracked hype. Vista isnt going to be another XP.

A little bit about the activation (and disable) of VISTA

Take what you want from the links but I wouldnt take a chance... That and the fact if someone is good enough to fix Vista to work then they are good enough to stick in a lovely little keylogger or detail stealer as well

i think the t&C's from microsoft mean you only get the upgrade when you have purchased a FULL system.NOT JUST AN OEM O.S

I Have done the request from the Acer website for my disk (Vista premium £23). I had to put in my Make, Model, Serial No and COA number.. Although it did let me put my serial number as 0 it still sends confirmation to Acer so they can check the COA and see when the PC was sold so dont know how this would work with OEM disks. Would the company you bought it from have to conirm it was bought with hardware??

Of course there will be.... But microsoft are implimenting changes that mean you cant update it becuase it will need validated for EVERY update unlike XP that only does it for certain upgrades. Would it be worth a hackers time cracking an OS then every update that comes along.. Or maybe they will just slipstream the updates and re-release the ISO so there you have 2-3 6GB downloads a month to keep your system up to date. You are also missing the point as well.. WGA is built into windows and cant be turned off unlike XP so will require some sort of hack... The real problem for pirates is SPP. Personally I wouldnt run an illegal version of an OS that cant be kept up to date or could lock my data so that I would need to buy a license anyway.(It can use its drivelock feature to encode all data so only the installed OS can access it meaning you would have to buy a license for the pirate version you downloaded to get any info you want back and then you would have to stick with the pirate version but at least you could update).

Do you realise how much trouble they would get in if they "encoded all of your data" ?
Where exactly are you getting your facts from? or is this just run of the mill rumour rubbish that has been thrown around for months now?
  • Well, all i've heard is that if you get found out with a illegal copy of vista it shuts down and locks 75% of the content and continually asks you for a licence. There are always going to be people who'll get past these hurdles. The only encoding Vista will do is the encoding you ask it to. Your OS won't go bad-!!! on you and lock your information away. But it will be harder seeing as Vista verifies by itself every so often so it's not a case of avoiding an update, more like not being online.

If you use a pirated version you're not going to be able to get updates on demand which I'd say is a pretty important thing for a brand new OS seeing as it's probably going to be as buggy as XP first was.

Have you even bothered to read any of the links I have posted????

Try reading the whole thread before you start spewing rubbish.. I have given 4 different sources from different people both for and against INCLUDING MICROSOFT.... SO try reading first mate.

Microsoft will not get in trouble for encoding your data because YOU AGREE TO THIS when you install Vista.. read the links and you will see.. Microsoft might not say it will definately do it but the option and technology is there and they can legally do it now because you agree to the EULA

In fact here is a smal extract from the first link if you are too lazy to read it all

"Windows Genuine Advantage,” allows Microsoft to unilaterally decide that you have breached the terms of the agreement, and they can essentially disable the software, and possibly deny you access to critical files on your computer without benefit of proof, hearing, testimony or judicial intervention. In fact, if Microsoft is wrong, and your software is, in fact, properly licensed, you probably will be forced to buy a license to another copy of the operating system from Microsoft just to be able to get access to your files, and then you can sue Microsoft for the original license fee. Even then, you wont be able to get any damages from Microsoft, and may not even be able to get the cost of the first license back."
