If people want to download an OS and take a chance on it being free from tampering and have no support then let them... Vista will come with a Verification system superior to XP and imagine having to wait for cracked versions of every update or new version of DX that comes along... That and the fact a lot of parts of VISTA require an internet connection to work and the fact Microsoft will have the Genuine advantage tool written into the EULA so that the software can phone home anytime to verify it. Although there will be workarounds would you really take the chance that it manages to sneek home a verify and then shuts down meaning you loose everything on your comp... If people here notice .. the workaround actually means replacing files with BETA versions.. Files that will be easily checked by windows update and changed .. The only reason this is working is because windows update is still running under the BETA version as they have garaunteed the RC2 to work until July 2007 (i think) the same date as the workaround is due to expire anyway..
  • Right enough with talking about selling Microsoft software.

If you want to use Vista til the end of June, then go and get the RC2 which is free, if it is still open. Other ways you have to buy a copy.
  • You are able to get OEM XP SP2 & This now includes a free voucher to Windows Vista all you pay is the vista shipping.

Currently Ebuyer was selling this for £85-00 and thats got the vista upgrade.

Have fun - it wont be worth it till sp2 ;) But if you want to have it and watch your sytem break a cheep way to do it.

For most people using their home machine, I would suggest:

Keeping your money in your pocket until you need a new PC, then see which OS is installed when it arrives.

Well, i'm not too sure about the OEM thing, i don't know whether microsoft changed the policy back or not, but the draft i read stated that OEM could be installed on one machine, full stop. No re-activation, so no rebooting, no changing hardware, nothing.

That was for the BETA release. the RTM release that comes with new PC's is not allowed to be transfered at all. Retail or OEM versions will be able to be transfered to a completely different device ONCE and use online activation.. After this you have to contact support to explain what is going on. This is the same as microsoft do just now except you are allowed more online changes (supposed to be 10). I have had to talk to support to activate my XP and all I was asked was "Is this the ONLY omputer this version of XP is on"

Yeah and I heard the PS3 and XBOX 360 emulator for the original Master system is a peach....
  • My advice before u buy any Vista product is to research a little, as far as I've seen so far there are dodgy areas about all sorts of stuff surrounding this OS such as hardware replacement, whether to buy Retail or OEM versions, 32 bit or 64 bit versions.

I think I will be out of pocket just for the luxury of being able to change internal hardware (as I do frequently) without being accused of piracy and having my pc disabled by THE MICROSOFT STORE.

i think the t&C's from microsoft mean you only get the upgrade when you have purchased a FULL system.NOT JUST AN OEM O.S
