The Living for free post and freecycle

I was just thinking about how I would like (more like need) to do the living for free thing as on the post of the same name - but our washing machine has packed in and the repair man says this time it has had it. We have no money for a new one and I am already tired of trying to wash by hand, so I put a wanted post on Freecycle, but didn't hold out much hope as there have been quite a few 'washing machine wanted' posts lately.
Joy of joys - a nice lady I have met before from freecycle has just offered me an automatic washing machine!
I can't tell you how thrilled I am. Just had to post.:j :j :j

Fab news!
I have never tried freecycle, must have a look at it0 -
I have found this earlier today. I found it interesting in view of this present discussion, and worth having a look at even if just out of curiosity.

That's excellent. It really is amazing what stuff people are prepared to get rid of for nothing, and far better to go to a new home than the tip.0 -
We had a dishwasher last summer from a lovely bloke who was upgrading their kitchen. He even delivered it and carried it round to the back of our house. Its still going strong.
We also got a shredder for all the hedge clippings,it needed a new rubber belt which was about £15.Useful to us with all our hedges and as it can make chippings for the compost and saved having to buy the garden waste sacks from the council at £3.50 for 5.
If you look for the bigger items though you may find you need to transport them yourself. We've got a trailer my OH built which already came in handy for an armchair and a big hoover (from his late dads house )which would have been chucked.0 -
That's great - I need one, but no luck yet - i have no trouble when giving stuff away though!0

Is it right that you have to give before you receive? I thought I had read this somewhere??Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

That depends on the group's set up. Some groups ask that you make an offer first in order to try and encourage people not to be "gimme gimme gimme's". Others take the view that every wanted reminds somebody of something they've pretty much forgotten that is sitting in the back of a cupboard or the garage/shed/attic.

Our group encourages giving before receiving - I had nothing to give this time but have given away a bathroom suite, lawn mower, vacuum, and a blender so I thought it would be okay to ask. There are often lovely sounding things going in our group - a few times I have had to stop myself from replying because it wasn't something I really needed, more of an 'ohh, I'd like that!' but I'm sure there was someone more deserving who got it in the end.:happylove0
