Shame we can't force people to use them.

To a point I think china has got this right, but maube limit it to 2 or 3 children per couple in this country. Would stablise the population if not lead to a slow decline in numbers.

wait for this one.... its good! Build 750,000 homes....... cha ching... solved!

o but wait, the value of houses will plummit causing most people to be in negative equity destabilising large parts of the country or at least restrict a generation of being able to move. So thats not going to happen, we cant stop single people buying a 3 bed house and living on their own, we cant prevent couples from splitting and buying two homes, and of course everyone should own their home so simple, stop all the immigrants then we would be gaining 100,000 homes a year from emigrating and then have the same problem in 10 years time of over supply, reduced prices and negative equity.

So immigrants are good as they keep house prices up, your starting to sound like Hamish!

Thats a massive human rights issue! World population does seem to be getting a bit out of hand, heard an american guy on the news the other day saying something along the lines of if the population got to 9 billion we'd have to almost double food production, sorry cant remember exact figures but it was overwhelming how much food would be consumed in an already under supplied necessicity (sp)

And the uk population increase is nothing compared to the global one unfortunately birth seems rife in poverty stricken areas and as much as we'd like tothink, were not that poor!

Are you now saying that a shortage of housing is a good thing?

Lol, i liked one of his comments for the first time today maybe hes rubbing off.

Not saying its good just saying high demand + low supply = high prices.

Why is it that these 750,000 houses we know were short of havent been built though, theres one for hamish!

In some aspects its good for sure, im happy in the fact that ive got equity in my house if there was no demand for a house then i wouldnt have any equity in it so yeh that to me is good.

Hovever before i bought it wasnt good when prices were only ever increasing disproportionately to wages and i was struggling to get a deposit together, that was bad!

There has always got to be a shortage of houses because if theres a glut too many people would be loosing assets and no government wants that.

What im saying is, it wouldnt be that hard to accomodate 750,000 homes across the uk and get them built sharpish but there is a reason this hasnt happened and thats because it would devalue most of the country

Human rights have got a bit too much, currently I say limit the number of children you can have in the UK, those who want more can use that right elsewhere. I will say this isn't so much an immigrant issue as we have a full indigenous chave profession breeding for benefits culture.

People talk about human rights, but what about the rights of the poor children born purely so there parents can afford more fags and cider.

Lets do some of my numbers. (there rounded and some are a bit historical but i will give you the data so you can scrutinise)

    Population = 60,000,000
Net migration = 250,000 (rounded up!) source

= 0.41% increase in population annualy due to immigration

Households in UK (england & wales only) = 22,539,000
    Houses built in 2010 = 102,730 source i used table 244

= 0.46% increase in houses in england and wales.

Does this not cover the increase in populationacross the whole of the uk never mind just england and wales?!

The housing shortage has not been caused by immigrants!

this would work as long as long as there was no breeding.

unfortunately for your mathematic model, there is. the increase in population is not just the net migration figure, but also the surplus of births over deaths.

the population is rising by more like 500,000 per annum. so the population is rising by approximately 0.8% per annum, versus the housing supply which is increasing by approximately 0.46% per annum plus a bit more for scotland. also the population increase is concentrated into certain areas, magnifying its effect.

if net immigration was flat then the new housing supply would be adequate for the increase in population due to new births. of course you could also argue that if the birth rate was equal to the death rate, then the new housing supply would be adequate.

the government also has more control over the birth rate.

I never said blackist or asianist or even chineseist, i said racist! Racism isnt discremination of someones colour but of their race/creed/sect or group of people who are put as a collective.

Ok, so as I understand it, based on your repsonse to the OP, any discussion about immigration is a racist discussion?
