I live in a leafy area of London and our High St is being attacked. We just noticed on Twitter that our High Street was about to be attacked. We have had to get our son (17) home, my hubby is going to get him, and the restaurant/Nandos is being closed. The Police Chief is telling us to all stay in doors.

I will cry my eyes out if I wake up tomorrow and our High Steet has been destroyed.

I can't believe what is happening in Croydon.

The government is doing nothing and is rubbish!!!!! I HATE THEM!

I'm sorry to hear that but to be fair it isn't the government setting fire to your high street is it.

Gosh ...DD has just come down stairs and gone into lounge where poor OH is watching escapist crud (in his defence, he has had a long hard day) and asked.......errr....Dad, can we watch The News for a minute. This is the 17 yr old who only watches Kardashions or Jersey Shore on catch up and has never watched the news in her life.

In fact, I don't think she realises she can watch it on i player on the laptop.....like what's The News?

I can't write what I want to say...................it's like the YT/Telly presence feeds the riots, becomes a reason for them....can't put it into words properly.

I just heard the same from DD (aged 17, Twitter/BBN addict) as her friend lives nearby....and they bbn'd that are now going to drive down to 'watch' the riots with a bottle of JD. I think the JD remark was teen bravado though......

and DD also told me that Welling MacDonalds has a riot and is being ''destroyed''. How does she know? Via Twitter...

Son home now - and friends all safe too!

to be fair to the met, it isn't set up to implement immediate martial law, which is the only way that this sort of thing can be quickly shut down. you can't drip feed officers into situations like this, you can only respond in an organised manner, and with limited manpower it's not possible to respond to multiple flash points immediately. i don't really understand the amount of moaning about their response.

if i was in charge i'd have the army in by now. shoot on sight. might deploy a couple of assault teams to deal with labour trolls in W10.

    Ealing....

Twitter has gone quiet now. There is a Police Station pretty much on Ealing High steet....

Trust me it is a little scary in London tonight - the only time I remember feeling this sad before is 7/7.

We need Boris to come back to be honest....

I'm not sure they would quality as 'Labour trolls' exactly - but you can be absolutely certain that the fans are being flamed by the same self-styled 'anarchist' agitators who helped along the 'student riots' a few month ago.
