Ha Ha You think I care if the Tories on this board take me seriously!!!!
They couldn't predict a riot.....If you keep doing what you've always done - you will keep getting what you've always got.0 -

and by the way leveller I hope some one comes and burns a high street near you soon and lets see how you feel then mate...If you keep doing what you've always done - you will keep getting what you've always got.0 -
its hackney and lewisham, and its been going on since 4.30 this afternoon, thugs just smashing buses up with people ON them , breaking into shop and burning cars etc, same old sh*t different day ( and area)
I feel sorry for the locals and innocents trying to get home....All I see is conflict when Tories are in power....
ETA; it's not political...just bad luck on whoever is in power at the time.
well......how I love to be back in SE London.......not......it has been 13 months since I moved back to my house here.
I had to do an overseas post run today so decided to do it at the end of the day in Woolwich, pop into M+S for some vin and stuff, get some cheap veg from the market and so on.
Woolwich High St has changed massively in the past 10 years ( in a positive way IMO) as most of the chains have now fled and most shops seem to be independent again. Cheap and cheerful now catering to the new people that have populated the area.
To put it into perspective, the Dorothy Perkins and New Look are the most expensive clothing shops in town now.
The M+ S is an outlet store but with a small food hall.
I did the post run and wanted to check if M+S shut @ 5,30 or 6 as I wanted to run down to the market...so popped in (and noted the slip on gates on the doors that aren't usually there) and spoke to the girl on lingerie.......it was a bit surreal but the converatuion went roughly as follows;
'' Hi what time do you close tonight?''
'' oooh well it depnds on the riots''
''what riots? I thought they were over the river'' (in SE London you get used to everything being over the river)
'' oh no, they are in Lewisham now and we are on alert'' *points to metal gates on doors *
'' OK, but I can't see any sign of a riot and it's 5.15....going to take a while to get here from Lewisham''
'' I know, I was thinking that as I was hoping to go home early'' *sighs* and carries on tidying up.
I was thinking about the 80's riots as they had no twitter, mobiles etc. Must have been quite an effort to sort out the rendevous and 'start' point back then.0 -
I live in a leafy area of London and our High St is being attacked. We just noticed on Twitter that our High Street was about to be attacked. We have had to get our son (17) home, my hubby is going to get him, and the restaurant/Nandos is being closed. The Police Chief is telling us to all stay in doors.
I will cry my eyes out if I wake up tomorrow and our High Steet has been destroyed.
I can't believe what is happening in Croydon.
The government is doing nothing and is rubbish!!!!! I HATE THEM!0 -
<Hamish>Of course the more properties that burn the worse the demand/supply balance will get </Hamish>I think....0

I just heard the same from DD (aged 17, Twitter/BBN addict) as her friend lives nearby....and they bbn'd that are now going to drive down to 'watch' the riots with a bottle of JD. I think the JD remark was teen bravado though......
and DD also told me that Welling MacDonalds has a riot and is being ''destroyed''. How does she know? Via Twitter...0
