I think they really ought to advertise on a better website.

    Yes- It's Bruno again!!!!!
Oh you have to laugh don't you? Full employment  Average house price will be £330,000 by 2025 - starting from nearly £200,000 that's hardly an earthshattering return (and no I can't be bothered to work it out properly, it's about 2% isn't it?)
    A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.
It's a recession when your neighbour loses his job; it's a depression when you lose yours.

I wouldnt say so for greater london. On my road theres a recylcing centre and a bus depot. On my mates road a few streets away theres a massive cooling tower and a scrap yard. This is what you get when you live cheek-by-jowl, those who live in greater london do expect some sort of "blight" that people in other parts of the country ( eg my parents in Cheshire) simply wouldnt accept.

An excellent point - one I've wanted to make for some time, but couldn't find the right words :o

Every single property in the Country involves a compromise of some description.

Clearly, plenty of people are willing to live in that (or a similar) location as very many already do!

    And this one

You must remember buyers cant see past these things

    is also surprisingly true.

It used to be that you bought a property according to the previous owners choices and then changed it to suit your own. Now .... everyone seems to expect a property to come with a standard spec of decor. I'll be in real trouble if ever I sell my property as it certainly doesn't meet the stereotype that is often described here :o

I would rather buy a cheaper place with bright orange, floral print, wallpaper which I could then fit out in my taste than buy some hideous property ladder knock-off that some one is trying to sell for 20k more.
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.

But *nobody* has *ever* paid *that much* to live in a semi in that location, people compromise on location if the price was low enough.

What makes this house worth more than any other in the road (including the detached houses - none have gone for as much either)?

The decor is live-able but in need of refurbishing...
The garden smaller than next door...
Lack of dining room/area for a table in the kitchen...

Careful now. We've only just got rid of the very bright orange walls in the place we just bought. It only took 5 coats:mad: .

In fact, it was so orange that we thought all the woodwork was cream - it turned out to be peach! But, it did help us "gently" negotiate the price.

Our new neighbour paid more than 10% more for her place and thought she got a bargain (exactly the same Victorian terrace). Saw the place a couple of days ago for the first time and although decor is neutral it needs re-doing from top to bottom due to wear and tear from previous owners cats:rolleyes: .

Fair point - I only commented on the feedback re the location and conveniently "ignored" the price issue :D

Slapped wrists (for me) for going slightly OT and not sticking to the OP's question :o

now go to your room with no tea :D

I can see where you are coming from, but don't forget that this house is way above the ceiling price for the area. It needs a bit of work, and is closer to a sewage works, industrial estate AND the A12 than it is a railway station or town centre.

If you live in the city itself, there will always be compromises like this. If you live in the suburbs (where this house is) you would expect it to be like anywhere else, except maybe a bit less green space and a few more amenities.
