Looking to upgrade from my HTC Desire. Been into the shop and like the look of both of these phones. The shop person I was speaking to said she preferred the HTC as it has less problems than the Samsung.

Whats everyones opinion on these two phones?

All the reviews i have read SGS2 comes out on top .
But one of the killers is that many HTC users are lost without Sense .

Note that they never tell what these problems are i wonder why ??

If i had a choice between the two >> i see no reason to move from SGS2 .

  • Thanks for both of your responses.

DUTR - Good point. Not knowing much about the processors etc, my only knowledge is what I've read and partially understand. The Sensation does have a bigger internal phone memory which is the main negative I have with the Desire.

JJ Egan - I bought the Samsung Europa for my hubby last year. After the initial problem of getting duplicated text messages at all hours of the day, he has now started having problems with his settings. For example, it defaults to the vibrate ringtone for no reason, and some of the apps he has downloaded, just disappear. Other than the Europa which is a very very low spec phone (but does my hubby fine), neither one of us had a Samsung phone.

As I have had no problems at all with my Desire - and I've had it for 15 months now - I am a little reticent to switch. Ive read the reviews for both on http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/ and although they say they prefer the S2, they also say there is nothing wrong with the Sensation.

I suppose another advantage of the S2 is that there seems to be better deals out there than for the Sensation.

There is the old saying, if it aint broke don't fix it ;) But if you are changing for change sake, probably better to do a big jump, if you upgrade right now, then there is little gain for the extra outlay, for me I have a Satio but I know whatever handset I have next the camera will not be as good by a long way, I do like the look of the SE xperia Ray, perhaps if you can hold out with your current handset then 2012 may have a super handset awaiting your desire :j
  • My thought was, my contract ends in a couple of months so rather than continue paying this contract I may as well start another. I prefer the advantage of being on a contract rather than pay as you go, so I wouldn't switch to PAYG when my contract ends.

But yes you are right I was really just thinking of changing for changing sake.

I may have a look at that SE Xperia.

It is a step up from a single core to a duel core processor.

The general view is that the Samsung is better.

The sensation has some problems with it's software that a few people seem unhappy with.

Thanks, I take it the dual processor makes it much quicker?

That's what the advisor said but she said it was the Samsung that had a few software issues.

I personally would argue that the general view is the sensation is better. I'm basing this on it generally ranking above the S2 on most websites and mags

They are very similar phones and both are high quality. HTC sensation has better screen res and HTC sense, while the samsung may have better battery life. I currently own the desire with an upgrade due in november at which point I am hoping HTC will have a new flagship phone on the go. If i upgraded today it would definitely be to the sensation. I love the desire and HTC sense. Base your decision on how much you have enjoyed the desire, if you have had a good experience then I would go sensation.

A good experiment may be to download a replacement home app from the marketplace on the desire (if you have the internal memory for it!) and see how you enjoy not having sense, if it doesn't bother you then you will know with the s2 you won't miss it.

The problems people are having with sensation software (i assume you are talking about some touchscreen issues) are limited and expected to be fixed shortly with an over the air update. HTC are very good with customer satisfaction, they seem to listen and are quick to get updates of new android OS out.

They are the 2 best androids out. Ultimately I doubt you will be disappointed with your decision either way.

I know the feeling, remember sim only is also an option with just 30 days comitment, then you can revert back to a contract which includes a handset at your own leisure.

P.s the difference you will notice between the desire and these phones is considerable.

Dual processor means it loads everything much faster, animations are smoother, everything will be seamless. For me the two phones you are considering are the only two worth considering as they offer great processing power. It will allow them to run the most current apps for many months to come.

When you enter the app market (which I have done on my GF's xperia arc (maybe the 3rd or 4th best android at the mo)) you will see so many apps that you can't find on the market on the desire. This is because as great a phone as the desire is, it is now outdated, behind by a generation and can't run some great new apps.

You will also get substantial extra internal memory and fully agree that it is the main fault with the desire. I hate having to delete apps to make room for other ones, won't be a problem with these two phones.

As well as having sense the Sensation is being highly rated due to the inclusion of HTC Watch, allows you to stream movies, check it out, may be up your street.

Try and get to play with both phones for a bit as well. There is a great new carphone warehouse near me where every phone in the shop is on and available to have a 5/10 minute muck about with. Also I find Youtube video reviews very useful in making a decision like this.
