So stressed...No dress

I must admit I find it strange that you won't email or call outside of "office hours" but will happily spend some time creating posts on here about the business. We all do and say things we regret when under severe stress, but the way you're responding to an obviously worried Bride to be is pretty astounding IMO.
Yes, I agree.
Can you not see that you told her the dress would probably go out on tuesday and by friday she still does not have it. I too would be concerned.
It looks like the dress was not sent until friday.0 -

I really think that a lot of people are being unfair towards Linda here. It appears that the majority of people have taken one side of the story and seem to be running with that and picking apart what Linda has said. If i were in Linda's position, i would be keen to defend myself if i felt that i was being unfairly portrayed. While Linda's name or company was not actually mentioned in the OP's post, a lot of people would have been keen to find out who it was to potentially avoid similar situations happening and this could have led to Linda's name being brought up then, perhaps unfairly. There are always two sides to every story remember.0

If you post anything on here it invites comment.
When I first read the OP I thought it was just a panicky bride- to-be as I said earlier, but it is the way that the dressmaker has responded that has surprised me.
I found it strange that she talked about post taking 3 days and the fact that the Op did not mention having problems with her post in the past, and yet it turns out it was sent special delivery which should arrive the next day.
We do not even know when the dress was actually sent, as all she will say is that the client knows.
We run our own business and I find it strange to deal with a customer in this way.0 -
Poppyoscar... why do we need to know when the dress was sent? It's nobody's business but the dressmaker and the client.
The deadline for the dress is the 15th, it has been sent, and the date today is the 7th.
I also notice that the OP has now gone quiet, maybe amazed by all the stress and anger in this thread!First date 10.2.2002
Engaged 18.8.2010
Wedding 9.4.2012
Baby #1 due 26.2.2014 :j0 -
Emz - exactly what i was going to say. Perhaps Linda is not telling everyone when it was posted because she has absolutely no reason to justify her actions to us. The deadline is Aug 15th, and Linda is saying that the delivery is on track for then. So how about we wait until there's no dress on the 15th before we totally condemn Linda?!0

I think it is important to know when the dress was sent because of statements that the dressmaker has made.
How can the deadline for the dress be the 15th when as I understand it that is the day she leaves to get married- thats cutting it rather fine isn't it? I would not want my wedding dress due to arrive as I am walking out the door!.
Maybe the OP is quiet because she has had her hen do this weekend (as stated in her post)- perhaps gone away for that?
The only one that seems angry to me is the dressmaker - the Op seems stressed and upset.0 -
I can appreciate the need to have a slightly special dress on a wedding day. Seems to me that there are several options to serve that purpose.
1/ Make your own, probably not a great cost saving. Although I have been amazed at the number of Singer Sewing machines flying off the shelves at Lidl this week priced at €99. The Spanish are very family orientated so they would be catering for family needs, but its nice to see the Singer brand in demand. I believe this model was going for £50 in Tesco's about 15 months ago.
2/ Use a dress-maker, but surely only if they live down the road or in the same town.
3/ Off the peg. When I was an innocent youth suits used to cost a fortune, together with a couple of 'bad buys' with the salesman holding excess material round the back of me while looking in the mirror. Fortunately Tesco's have come to the rescue and you can buy a suit for £20 now. I certainly would not pay more, as HMCE do not even allow cleaning charges for work clothes (unless logo stamped). Who cares if they look shiny & cheap, if an employer wants his employee to look 'expensive' he can bl**dy well pay for the suit out of petty cash.
The material for a wedding dress is already shiny & there are outlets for off the peg wedding gowns at Monsoon. Coast & Debenhams. I would imagine that after getting the correct bust fit the only other adjustment would be length, simple enough.
We are talking a maximum price here of about £150 with the possibility of shopping around and spending only £100. Seems like a good deal to me!!!
Personally I think Brides look equally good in either a dress or pants. How couples can justify the expense of spending £21000 on a wedding totally baffles me. Has the world gone completely mad??
A dress for £130 and a quiet registry office marriage followed by a honeymoon in Scotland. Yours for less than £1500 all in.
Anyway hope it all goes well for you.

Incidentally if anyone else is thinking of going this route try to stick to good basic dress making rules. If you cannot be measured find a dress that fits you like a glove, and then measure that dress or even better send it to the dressmaker. Never get someone inexperienced to measure you.:T0 -

I had my veil sent to me by special delivery from the UK to Poland. When the date of the wedding was getting nearer and nearer, I got the tracking number from the retailer - it turned out that the parcel spent 5 (yes, FIVE!) days on the post in the UK before it was finally sent to Poland. Once it was here, it took the post 2 and a half days to deliver.
As for the dress, I picked up mine on Tuesday, so 4 days before the wedding. Why would I need it any earlier? From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -
I actually think that the dressmaker in this case is being very professional, stating the facts and not entering into a personal debate/discussion. It's not 'attitude' it's just customer service speak. If she's sent the dress out in good time ahead of the deadline, then that's that. She's just speaking the facts and it would be unprofessional to do any more than that. If the client wanted the dress earlier they could have agreed that beforehand, but so long as the dressmaker has stuck to her original agreement with the client then there's been no wrongdoing.Betty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....
