So stressed...No dress

We leave for our wedding next Monday and I still do not have my dress.

It's being made by a dress makers who said they would probably be sending it on Tuesday. It's now Friday and no dress and no contact from the Dressmaker despite phone calls, emails and text messages.

I'm so stressed about this i'm in tears and I don't know what to do now?! I'm supposed to be going on my hen do tomorrow and this is just hanging over me like a big cloud.

  • Aw - I'm so sorry - that's a nightmare. Just try your best to enjoy the hen do and ask someone else to keep calling them while you're on it.

If all else fails, you'll be able to get a dress from Monsoon or Debenhams. No - it won't be the same, but you DO have options.

By NEXT Monday do you mean 15th? That's a whole 9 days!!! Hope that helps xxcx

Oh, you poor thing. That doesn't sound good. :( Could you go and visit where they work?

In your situation, what I'd probably do is go shopping tomorrow and get yourself a lovely off-the-peg dress from somewhere like Monsoon and keep the tags on so that you can return it if you don't need it. That way, at least you can go and enjoy your hen do.

Hope it all works out for you. xx

I am not exactly experienced in these things but it might be a good idea to give the dressmaker the elbow.
Go to Tesco's & buy some white satin slacks (for keeps) & buy a long embroidered top in a matching white. You can then return the top to Tescos before the month end.
    Good luck

I feel I should respond to this as the said dressmaker is me.

When emmie first contacted me throught the forum we agreed it would be a distance sale (as many members here have received this service from me) The price is always reflected in distance sales as I don't have to account time for fittings and such into the cost.

Emmie sent me her measurments and said she 'hoped' they were correct as her partner was taking them for her.
While visiting my parents, who live in the same town, I suggested I call around and take the measurments myself. No cost to her, just time out of important time visiting my parents. I took the said measurments, which at points were 1-2" out.

I began construction knowing the scheduled date 15th August and we pencilled in a date week commencing 1st August for completion and despatch.

A few weeks ago, Emmie called me to say she was on a visit north and wanted to book in a fitting. I happily accomodated her, again at no extra charge to her original cost. I also added 'extras' into the design, again at no extra cost.

I received an email on Monday and as I was working at the studio was about to respond after my working day was finished. I received a telephone call at 6.45pm that evening and advised her that the dress was due for despatch and that it would hopefully go out Tuesday. She seemed perfectly fine with this.

I followed this up with an e mail wednesday updating the situation before I left for an industry event in Newcastle. When I arrived back I had numerous e mails from Emmie, missed calls, some as late as 8pm at night and numerous text messages from her. To say I felt hounded after my e mail confirming status was to say an understatement.

I responded to the e mail on Friday (before she posted this topic) stating that a confirmation had been sent.
I've since received numerous calls from her again and today received a rather 'aggressive' telephone call from her partner.
Again, I explained the situation to him and also informed him of this topic of which I felt dutiful to respond too as it painted me in a rather bad light.
I come home, again, to find a further aggressive e mail from her partner saying he will call me tomorrow. Another non working day for me.
I appreciate that weddings are a stressful time and I deal with it at times. Moreso when clients are dissatisfied with items they have purchased away from my business, generally pre purchased wedding related items.

I have an impeccible reputation from many satisfied clients whom among many have come from this forum.

I remain in constant contact with them and advise if they don't hear from me not to panic. I would have hoped that in this instance, Emmie may have put more faith into me rather than airing her 'concerns' 'quite plainly and quite one sided, before posting something publicly.

I shall forward, again, the tracking information, but will not be accepting telephone calls from her or her partner tomorrow along with replies to e mail correspondance.

Can I aslo point out that I have been notified by Emmie that their post has often been mislaid or delivered to the wrong address. I note none of this was explained in her original post.

This is a good point, at no point in the post do you mentioned how you sent it - surely it goes without saying that you sent it by a trackable method of delivery? especially with OP's "post problems"?.
my wedding dress wasnt ready til the day before and it caused me no end of stress, the poor girl is probably tearing her hair out with worry.

It was sent normal recorded. I have sent pettis to folk and sometimes with the weekend things can get delayed. I've had first class take 3 days and second be here the next!
Can I just add that it goes without saying that I would send something via trackable post. I'm not that dim!

Linda is making my dress for me and so far I can say it's been a wonderful experience. I live about 2 hours from Linda and so my arrival time is always a little bit up for grabs. I've had 3 visits over there so far for consultation, measuring and first fitting. Each time I arrived a bit early and was never made to feel like I was being awkward. And I never felt under any pressure to be out the door though I know Linda is busy - I've been made to feel like it's all about me. And that was the case on my first 2 visits which were when Linda still worked from home - even though it was a Saturday and her husband and daughters were around, I felt welcomed in.
The fact that in this case OP has effectively had 2 unscheduled and free visits speak volumes for Linda's dedication, especially when one of them was during non-working time visiting her family. And I'm assuming OP has seen the Dresses at No 9 FB site where it's clear how busy Linda is and yet she still fitted in those extra appointments
Personally I love coming on this forum anyway to see pics, share wedding planning stories etc but one of the best things for me has been that it put me in touch with Linda, and I know I'm not the only bride feeling that way

I think with something as important and precious as this I would ask the customer to pay for special delivery, for your benefit as much as theirs.
