On the site plan they all have drives.

I live in an ex show house as does our neighbour....the estate had 2 show houses next to each other and a path way leading to and between the 2 houses - they also had no garage doors on the house we bought they had 2 sets of patio doors - we have a double garage. The office for the site was in our garage...so we had a plastered (complete with coving) and a good laminate floor and inset lights in the ceiling in the garage - it's never been used as a garage.

Everything was finished off properly and gardens separated, driveway built, garage doors put on (if we wanted) - I'd have been well pee'd off if I had a brand new house and drive that had been well used - not having one for the showhouses stops people parking in them.....

Next door when he moved in had the path to nowhere in his front garden - it went from his front door, along past the windows to a small wrought iron fence....ours had been removed when the drive was laid - but we were left with a large outdoor security light a couple of yards from the front of the house and facing the house - if you switched it on it was like Stalag 17....

Yes, but isn't saying "we will only sell to 55+ year-olds" the same as saying "we will only sell to white people"?

I guess part of what people are buying into when they get retirement places is "peace and quiet" - no children, no teenagers, less chance of barking dogs. On the plus side - the neighbours are generally likely to be in their agegroup/possibly have similar lifestyles.

Personally, I dont think it at all unreasonable that people should be able to have well-maintained places at a cheaper price once they get into that agegroup - to make up for the fact that those places are smaller/there's service charge issues/this is an agegroup that is much more likely to have health issues.

Though I'd never buy one personally (they are too small for me basically) I appreciate the "mental security" of knowing I could do so if my finances worsened and it was that or be out on the streets. No disrespect to them - as some of them are really quite nice and its rare to see a slummy one - but it does help to know there is a cheaper fallback option should it ever be needed.

A family friend bought an ex-showhome. She saw the rooms had curtains. Came the first night - the curtains never met up in the middle!

How many statues in the front garden? Unfortunately, the front garden looks like it belongs to the ground floor flat as the 1st floor flat which is for sale has the back garden.

Don't like the name of the road either!

Wierd isn't it, I'm not sure I could bring myself to live on Ebenezer Drive either.

Err.... are you sure you're thinking of 55+ year olds not 85+ year olds?

55 year olds have grown up with the likes of Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis, Denis Leary and even Donny Osmond as peers. They're 60's children and are more likely to listen to The Scorpions (lead singer now aged 65) than, say, Val Doonican. And what with all that thrash metal deafening them during their early years, lots more likely to need the volume up high! I don't think by 55 everyone has settled down into "similar lifestyles"!
Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.

I mentioned this in a previous post - because of the house prices are high, parents aged 55+ still have adult children living with them. Hence why many are up for sale chain free. I suspect the previous owner was in their 70s and 80s and died. I moved out when my parents were 61 and 59. I did move out seven years prior to this but moved back when I split up with my ex.

My friend is 62 and DH is 70. They have their 26 year old DS living with them. They enjoy it when he is on holiday or staying o/n at his girlfriend's. Also they want to go away when he is away. I say he will learn more and gain more home skills like cooking when they go away at a different time. Plus makes the house more secure as there is at least someone at home during the evenings.

Finally developers have realised that the garages they provide are too small for any modern car and besides, no one ever parks their car inside them these days :rotfl:

Those houses also look like a computer generated hell

I don't think so either, but people who choose such schemes are selecting the perceived lifestyle, or else they have little choice.

Man, this thread is getting, like, really heavy now! cool-smiley-030.gif
