There's just a strong impression of someone who didn't have much of a life because of illness and didn't even have the money to maintain the house reasonably (presumably loss of income caused by the illness).
It must have been so depressing for them having to continue living in that house and try and make it do - on top of the illness itself:(
I confess that my main worry about that house (as a potential buyer) would be not so much the work needing doing on it - but I would feel distinctly uneasy in a home thats probably seen more than its fair share of sadness and frustration.
I agree with you about picking up impressions from a house, rightly or wrongly. A house would have to have the right "atmosphere" for me to feel comfortable in it.0 -

But then you'd probably have to cart me off in a strait-jacket.....
ETA: Sorry Phoebe, just caught up, my condolences.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Sorry to hear your news, phoebe. If the dementia was well-advanced, you may feel that the person you knew slipped away some time ago. I know I felt like that.
I have to disagree slightly with others in that I did find the most amazing care home where Dad would have flourished, had I acted soon enough. I'm not sure how many others of comparable quality there might be though, especially on a tight budget. It took me many, many depressing visits to others before I found it.
Urns. We ended up with two, as planned. They were emptied in a rather nice place at sunset on January 1st 2006. I'm afraid we didn't ask the titled owner's permission!0 -
I disagree - as others have. It has a lovely hall and nice big rooms (bit unsure about view from pic 3 showing a door though...... ). May well have been someone who had lived a long and fulfilled life and I'm sure they would love to see it restored to glory. Would love to take it on
I agree with you, I think that could be a stunning house - I love the arch and ceiling features in picture 13.
Phoebe, I'm very sorry for your loss0 -

The late owner who was wheelchair bound (photo 6 has a the wheelchair lift) had an obsession with blue, wallpapered the lounge ceiling (when they were abled) and probably done no improvements to the house - excluding the walk in shower and lift since 1974.
I woudln't call the blue bog and maroon basin in the cloakroom a 'suite', More like a mismatch.
although the stone cladding fireplaces are a bit too far, that's actually the sort of house I'd like. I think I'd prefer it if the carpets went though - easier to tell if the floorboards smell of pee.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
