They still sell Fablon.
My parents were also fond of those (inflammable) ceiling tiles in the 70s.
I remember when my dad fitted those awful (polystyrene?) tiles. In the early hours we were awoken by a weird 'wooshing' noise - and went downstairs to find the tiles had become unstuck and were gliding across the kitchen!
He also built a bar, not unlike the one in the house picture in shape, but made out of plywood and covered in quilted effect sticky back plastic. When we moved, we didn't (thankfully!) have room for the bar, so he asked our buyer if she wanted to make him an offer for it. I still remember her look of absolute horror!0 -

A new(ish) build posted here a few months ago had the exact same thing, it does seem odd.0
